It's difficult to watch these recently released multiplayer clips of Turok and be completely satisfied. Sure, what's here looks solid, but the one key omission is so glaringly obvious, we're not even going to mention it. ... What, don't you see it? It's the only thing we can see: None of the players are dinosaurs. It's a fact that playing as a dinosaur is considered by many experts to be the raddest thing you can do in a video game, short of skydiving into a dynamite factory. In our younger years, we went so far as the pick up the Genesis version of Jurassic Park just so we could experience the thrill of playing as a velociraptor. It's been nearly 15 years since then, and our thirst to rend human flesh with our razor-like teeth and talons still has yet to be slaked. Come on, Touchstone Studios, just think about it. The opportunity is lying right there, like a golden ... thing, just waiting to be picked up and pawned. ... Or is that pwned?

  • Turok's team killing achievement

Well that's just great. Like we needed another reason to get the denizens of Xbox Live into griefing. The achievement list for Turok has been revealed and one achievement in particular could raise a new generation of team killing jerkholes. Entitled the "Grab Bag" achievement, it rewards players for killing "at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself in the same round of a public match." Granted, at least it's not for a ranked match, but who's bright idea was this? Sorry Propaganda, but encouraging betrayals (outside of Kane & Lynch anyway) is not our idea of fun. That said ... we'll probably do it. We could use the points.[Via Joystiq]

  • Turok rewards you for team-killing with achievement

Ask anyone: Killing your own teammates is just about the most fun you can have in a multiplayer game (except for walking around crouched and claiming you have scurvy, natch). Thankfully, Propaganda Games, the developers of the "we-swear-it's-not-crappy-anymore" Turok finally acknowledged this awesome pastime with the "Grab Bag" achievement. The 10-pointer is awarded to you if you "Kill at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself in the same round of a public match." So keep that in mind the next time a team member shoots you in the face with an arrow before tripping on their own grenade. They're not awful. They're achieving.

  • Turok goes dino hunting on PC

Turok still has every intention of making his console debut on Feb. 5, '08, but Propaganda Games has announced that a PC version is also in the mix. The PC version will release on the same date and is being converted by Aspyr Media, complete with multiplayer mode supporting 16 players. Turok really was a sleeper surprise as last year's E3 and our hands-on time with it had us wanting more. The console versions should get a little more attention from a post-holiday lull and will hopefully match our initial impressions. 'Cause, you know, hunting dinosaurs is cool.[Update: Added PC version release date.]

  • Turok to rock Turok animated film

Time-traveling Native American news now (we'll have to create another spin-off site at this rate!), with a newly released video of an animated Turok film. Presumably releasing straight to DVD in early 2008, Turok: Son of Stone looks to feature plenty of violence, reptile dysfunction and at least one scene of a fat man being eaten unexpectedly. If you're confused as to why this Turok looks nothing like the one featured in Disney's promising Unreal-powered first-person shooter (slated for February), it's probably because you either skipped the comic book series or never accompanied the dinosaur hunter when he battled his greatest foe -- the N64's draw distance.[Via Firing Squad]

The dinosaur infested, bloody mess, survival game known as Turok will be releasing early next year to the 360 and what better way to connect to the gaming community (and play the marketing card) than with the launch of a new developer blog? And that's exactly what the crew over at Propaganda Games just did, making their first blog entry into their official IGN sponsored Turok / Propaganda Games blog.In their most recent entry, they talk about the history of the Turok franchise, how they got involved with the game and tell of the basic storyline. Be sure to note that the new Turok has no relation to the story presented in the previous games, it's what the industry calls starting on a clean slate. So, if you're looking forward to dinosaur killing next year, be sure to bookmark the new Turok blog for upcoming interviews, dev talk and other random dinosaur bits in the weeks to come. All we're hoping for is a glimpse at a triceratops. We love triceratops'.

  • Turok adds some big name voice talent

Back a decade or so ago, the voice work in Turok for the Nintendo 64 brought no small amount of joy to our then tiny hearts. Sure, it was basically just variations on "I am Turok!" but if there's a better thing to shout after you dunk your brother's Thundercats in the toilet, we haven't heard about it.It seems that for its big-budget modern remake, Turok is stepping up the acting with names like Timothy Olyphant (making his second game-related appearance), Ron Perlman and Donnie Wahlberg. Joseph Turok will be voiced by Gregory Norman Cruz, who you would recognize as "Bobby Stillwater" from Saving Grace if you were the sort to watch Saving Grace, which we trust you are not. Also, the main villain of the game will, in accordance with federal law, be played by Powers Boothe. Is it just us, or did Feb. 5, 2008 just get a little further away?

Lost in the shuffle of the Juiced 2 demo and positively too much Halo 3 news was a new trailer for Turok. The trailer, now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, showcases the different stealth options there are in the upcoming revitalization of the ailing franchise. In the video, you get to see protagonist Joseph Turok take out numerous enemy soldiers (and one solitary dinosaur) with his trusty knife and bow. The video also shows a brief glimpse of a silenced firearm, which we haven't seen before. We'd like to see some more stealth kills against the dinosaurs, as they offer some of the better finishing animations. Still, if you want a taste of the stealthy goodness available in Turok, the video does the trick. Also, the video alludes to more gameplay videos to come, so we expect more between now and the game's release early next year.

  • Rumorong: Turok isn't delayed, it's been February

Turok didn't recently receive a delay. Period. It's been February all the way back since E3, despite what some major gaming news outlets are reporting. One outlet in particular even has the same video below their story which we've linked from GameTrailers after the break that clearly shows a Feb. release date. Need more proof? Download the trailer on your Xbox 360 or PS3. They've all got the same date from months ago. As for Europe getting it Feb. 8, that's pretty much consistent with the way things work. Turok's already got a tough enough time being marketed by Disney, which is a shame because we definitely found our time with the game enjoyable. As much as August is a painful month for gamers in terms of delays, Turok just isn't one of them -- yet.

Dinosaurs, as you may have heard, play an important role in Turok. They are big, scary, and seem awfully fond of the taste of human flesh. Lucky for Joseph Turok (worst. last name. evar.), he just happens to be a badass killing machine (probably as a result of the endless childhood teasing about his stupid name). We had a chance to take Turok's brand of dinosaur destruction for a spin at E3, and we jumped at opportunity like a dilophosaur on Newman.

Though we'd advise you to exhibit some skepticism regarding this news, our instincts urge us to share it with you regardless. During Disney Interactive's press conference yesterday, an enthusiastic demonstration of the new Turok first-person shooter (due for release on February 5th) was marked by the developer's insightful observation: "So, obviously, dinosaurs are a huge part of this game..."We've contacted Disney to confirm this information.

During Disney Interactive's Press Conference this afternoon General Manager of Propaganda Games, Josh Holmes cames on stage to show off Turok's facelift and how Propaganda has plans to reinvent the series. The video they showed included stealth kills by stabbing someone in the face, and using the bow and arrows. It's rather unfortunate the main character got eaten by a T-rex. They also anneaournced that Turok will be released on February 5th, 2008. Let us know if this this game coming in Q1 2008 piques your interest, you must.

Propaganda Games has announced that Turok will debut on February 5, 2008. The announcement was made during Disney Interactive's press conference by Josh Holmes of Propaganda Games. Turok is Propaganda's attempt to reinvigorate the ailing franchise. The game aims to do this by providing players with a variety of gameplay choices and some particularly nasty enemies. Given the absolute glut of first person shooters (and AAA titles in general) being released this holiday season, the decision to release the game in 2008 is probably a wise one.

We ran across this gameplay video and just had to share it with you guys to get your opinion. The video above is an in-game Turok demo with dinosaurs, knives, and intriguing kill animations. Speaking of those killing animations, we totally love how visceral they feel and the sheer brutality of them, but we are a little on the fence about how they could potentially interrupt gameplay. Who knows, maybe those third person killing scenes are timed as such they won't interfere all that much seeing that the game has a stealth feel to it. Give the Turok gameplay a good watch and share your opinion.

  • IGN tussles with Turok

If you've been playing games long, you've probably heard a million variations on the "if you try to go in guns blazing, you're dead" theme. The idea, you see, is to leverage the idea that there are multiple ways to solve any puzzle in a game, and direct violence is rarely the best one. It was used to promote Splinter Cell, Oblivion, and now Turok. Trite though the sentiment may be, it seems Turok is going a long way towards adding some variety to the FPS genre. IGN got their hands on the title for some pre-E3 action and came away impressed. The enemies seem to have pretty decent AI, which means they will trigger alarms if you're less than stealthy and wait for backup to arrive before they flank and kill you. In a refreshing change of pace, there is no "stealth mode" to aid you in sneaking up on your enemies, so you'll just have to do your best to stay out of sight. You patience is rewarded with some gruesome stealth kills. With all these changes though, the developers at Propaganda are particularly keen to show off the dinosaurs.

Over ten years after the Nintendo 64 debut of Turok, Propaganda Games is getting ready to roll out a PS3 and Xbox 360 update to the dinosaur-hunting FPS. Set on a mysterious planet in the future, Turok and a squad of elite soldiers are tasked with apprehending his former mentor, Roland Kane. Unfortunately things don't go quite as planned and Turok and crew find themselves stuck in the middle of a dense dinosaur-filled jungle.IGN's recent hands-on with the Xbox 360 version of Turok shows that some of the technology and options in the game are "beyond sweet". For example, Turok really lets you get the gore on with creative ways of disposing of dinosaur foes. Sticky grenades on a raptor's back sounds pretty sweet to us. Combine that with an intelligent, living environment, and teammates that do more than serve as ammunition shields and "beyond sweet" sounds like a fitting phrase. Turok will be ready to storm out the gate in Q1 2008.

It's nice to see Turok come back from the horrible spiral it started to take after the first games. IGN got to test ride the dino-hunter title recently and their verdict is what we wanted to hear: "beyond sweet." Let's explain. The jungle you're stuck in on some foreign world is alive with options. Two soldiers approach your hiding place. Shoot them? They'll sound the alarm and waves of enemies will come, not to mention dinosaurs who grow hungry and like loud noises. Bow and arrow them? Yeah, but that's boring. Sneak around and knife 'em? Nah! How about you stick a silencer on your gun, aim carefully and shoot the nearby dinosaur egg nest, and watch the mother run out and feast on the intruders walking by? Now that sounds fun!Much like plenty of other FPS titles out there, every weapon comes with a secondary fire option and each of these can be used appropriately in a multitude of situations. We hope Tek Arrows come back. Those were nifty. In addition to secondary fire on your weaponry, you'll have context-sensitive commands if you want to, er, "stealth kill" a dino, or if a dino is trying to eat your face. Sounds good, but might be a bit time consuming in those 16-player online matches complete with dinosaurs to kill everyone. We're cautiously optimistic. The game sounds glorious, looks fantastic and from the hands-on, we get the idea the game has a lot going for it. What could ruin it? Not poor A.I., as it's being touted as something to be reckoned with. Length of the game? Nope, the online mode sounds unique and fun, too. We're not sure, but we think that this new Turok game will indeed bring the series to a new beginning and it will rock.

Xboxyde recently got their hands on some new Turok screenshots, and it appears the game is coming along nicely. In the five new images, we get a glimpse at a few of the reptilian beasts that will be roaming around the arena. Lighting and character models are looking good, but that's to be expected with the proper implementation of the Unreal 3 Engine. The foliage still needs a little work, but they have plenty of time to polish the game up before it's expected fall release. If you want to have a look at the rest of the screens, hit the "Read" link. Is Turok on your radar?

Ever since the original Turok on the fantastic, amazingly successful, completely not abandoned N64 that definitely did not indirectly spur on the creation of the PlayStation, the games have sucked. Not going to lie. Anyway, the new screenshots getting regurgitated from the dinosaur's stomach, as it were, over at Propaganda Games, are actually quite promising.Five, count 'em, five screenshots have made their way onto the IGN screenshot section and we're going to chat about them. There are dinosaurs, people in funky outfits, blood, and pretty environments. Oh, scorpions too. We're not sure if these are in-game or pre-rendered or cinematic shots, but no matter what, if the end result looks anything like this, we'll be able to think that rabid dinosaurs are scary again. Leave us your thoughts!

  • Turok multiplayer = Xtreme Jurassic Park

The original Turok on the Nintendo 64 was, in a way, fun. For a little. There were crazy weapons that were horrendously entertaining, dinosaurs that enjoyed being violently slaughtered and boss battles that were pretty much impossible without cheat codes. The worst part about that first game was the fog -- you could not see very far in the distance at all. At all. Now, I never played any of the sequels, but apparently things went downhill. The newest iteration of the franchise is trying to mix things up a bit with their multiplayer. Here's what we know: 16-person multiplayer matches teeming with prehistoric life as well as human opponents Dinosaurs will actively hunt you down! In multiplayer, for example, there will be two different paths: a narrow road up a mountain that dinosaurs can't climb but leaves you completely open for human sniping or take the path through the jungle and get eaten. Or hide really well. So, really, all we've learned is that 16-person multiplayer matches will pit you against other people as well as very hungry AI-dinosaurs. You've got different paths to choose on the maps and your death will come gruesomely either way. It sounds like a step in the right direction -- I've always wanted that third party opposition in multiplayer games. What do you guys think?
