The Ferrari 812 Superfast is exactly what it sounds like
Every shift of the gears unleashes a burst of torque as I link corners on the mountain roads of Northern California. I hit the brakes hard as I head into a curve. I'm not even sure I needed to brake. The wheels are firmly planted to the asphalt and I power out of the apex and on to the next turn. I'm tapping into maybe 50 percent of the Ferrari 812 Superfast's ability as a supercar and it's outstanding.
Ferrari's hybrid commits sacrilege, rolls in electric-only mode
Pop quiz, hotshot. How much horsepower do you get with a 789HP V12 and 160HP electric motor? Any Ferrari fan knows the (insane) answer: 949. That's the total output from the $1.69 million hybrid LaFerrari, and Ferrari has always said that both motors would always work as one to produce it -- no electric-only mode. But a new video has shown the limited-edition supercar rolling out of its garage as silently as a cat before the V12 comes alive. It's mighty strange to see a dead-quiet Ferrari (especially considering its past stance on EVs), even if it was just for a few hundred yards. We're not sure if that means it'll now do that in stop and start driving like your hippy uncle's Prius, though Ferrari has promised a 5-mile EV-only mode on future cars. Not that it's going to help the EPA numbers -- it is a 217MPH car, after all.
V12-designed dual-screen laptop going into production?
Sure, we were skeptical when we first saw V12 Design's dual LCD concept -- but it seems to be one step closer to production. Named the Canova, the Italian designed laptop boasts an LCD where the keyboard and trackpad traditionally are. We don't have any specifics about the construction or innards of this crazy-looking beast yet, but they've hooked up with an American company, Estari, to bring the laptop into reality. V12 Designs' dual-screen laptop coming in two years?
No, not that dual-screen, silly. Or that one. Or that one! The dual-screen lappie we're talking about actually has two LCD panels, one of which takes the place of a traditional keyboard / trackpad. Reportedly, V12 Designs -- which takes credit for dreaming up the design some four years ago -- is working with an undisclosed US firm in order to bring said concept to market. We're told that the keyboard display will likely support haptic feedback so users can feel when a keystroke is registered, and of course, voice recognition will also play a large role. It's not that we don't think these are coming, but V12's Valerio Cometti is suggesting that they'll be ready for consumption in a mere 16 months. Don't hate us for being skeptical, but... we're skeptical.
BlueAnt Wireless intros V12 LCD Bluetooth headset
Another day, another donut Bluetooth headset announcement. The BlueAnt Wireless V12 LCD Bluetooth headset, brings little new to a marketplace positively brimming with like devices. If there is one thing we know, it's the age-old trick to help a product stand out: simply place several cool backlit ants on it -- but sadly, that wasn't in the cards this lap 'round the track. What BlueAnt Wireless did get right, however, is to pack a barge-load of features into this 16 gram, 2.3 inch long set. Featuring call display with 10 number redial, vibrating alert, 12 hour talk time, and 300 hour standby (the site labels this as 15 days – apparently the days are shorter in Australia). Throw in ambient noise reduction, and the stylin' brushed aluminum finish rounds out what we would expect to see at the $99.00 price point. Best feature? The magic words 'V12' are on the headset, baby! Anything with V12 in it, or on it, is fine by us.[Via PHONE Magazine]
Klegg's Mini V12 video player with Bluetooth stereo audio
Klegg just dropped a new Bluetooth 2.0 video player into the mix with their Mini V12. The V12 sounds pretty sweet on paper with listed support for MP3, WMA, MPEG-4, WMV, DivX and AVI formats, a "bright" 1.8-inch TFT, 20 hour battery (audio only, presumably) and Bluetooth A2DP stereo audio support for cable-free listening. Prices will start at $100 for players in capacities of 1 / 2 / 4GB but only the 4 gigger includes Bluetooth. And yeah, Klegg's still got the minerals to boast in true ambiguous terms that the V12 is "slighter smaller than an Apple iPod." Oh, would that be the iPod nano, Shuffle, 5th gen with video or maybe some earlier generation iPod, hmm? Expect the V12 to drop mid-summer under a marketing and distribution deal with VisioNET who will provide the user interface for access to their "first-rate" media content.
