<div style="text-align: left;">Creative sure seems to be taking the incremental approach to upgrades with its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/vadohd">Vado HD</a> pocket camcorders, but if you've found the previous two models just a tad lacking, you might want to consider the company's newly announced 3rd gen model. From the looks of it, most of the core specs remain the same, but Creative is promising some improved low light video recording and manual exposure adjustment, along with a new motion detection mode, support for an external stereo mic, a headphone output, and even the ability to take some still photos. You'll also now get out of the box Mac and PC compatibility, and five glossier than ever colors -- though Creative has curiously dropped the 8GB model in favor of a single 4GB option, which will set you back $179.99.<br />

If we recall, the previous Vado HD could at one point <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/11/creatives-vado-hd-720p-pocket-camcorder-reviewed-toe-to-toe-wi/">hold its own</a> against pocket camcorders, but times have changed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/02/digilife-ddv-jf1-pocket-cam-shoots-hd-packs-its-own-projector/">and</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/04/kodak-zi8-impressions-surprising-functionality-but-its-still/">new</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/14/samsung-hmx-u10-full-hd-camcorder-with-1-button-youtube-uploads/">challengers</a> have entered the competition. So how does <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Creative/">Creative</a>'s second generation Vado HD keep up? We actually don't know -- the press release is sparse on details, except to say the 4GB / 60-minute white-and-green model will cost $180 and the 8GB / 120-minute black-and-red one is $200. Also on the horizon early this month is Vado Central software for OS X machines. It'll be compatible with all Vado models, and features easy import to iMovie for quick-and-dirty editing projects. Pre-order listings for the camcorders are supposed to pop up on Amazon and Creative's any time now, so hopefully there'll be some more data to shed light on things -- image stabilization would be a nice touch, but we're not getting our hopes up.<br />

This week's <a href="http://ask.engadget.com/">Ask Engadget</a> question is coming to us from Lulu, who can't seem to select a camcorder worthy of being carried around in her <a target="_blank" href="http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/5053904/HowToWearPocketWatches4Crosswised_Full.jpg">Fifth Pocket[TM]</a>.<br /> <blockquote><em>"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/FlipVideo/">Flip</a> because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"</em><br /> </blockquote>The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/pocket+camcorder/">pocket camcorder</a> arena has blossomed into something of a small giant here recently, with entries from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/02/sony-hdr-tg5-makes-worlds-smallest-full-hd-camcorder-lighter-a/">Sony</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/14/samsung-hmx-u10-full-hd-camcorder-with-1-button-youtube-uploads/">Samsung</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/04/kodak-zi8-impressions-surprising-functionality-but-its-still/">Kodak</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/08/creatives-vado-hd-720p-pocket-camcorder-now-on-sale-for-199-99/">Creative</a> flowing in to compete with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/30/flip-video-ultra-hd-video-review/">Ultra HD</a>. For those of you who've laid down the cheddar, why not share your experiences here in order to direct Lulu to making the right choice? Surely you won't pass on an opportunity to help a fellow nerd. <em>Surely.</em><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ask/" rel="tag">Ask Engadget</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/13/ask-engadget-best-pocket-sized-camcorder-out-there/">Ask Engadget: Best pocket-sized camcorder out there?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 13 Aug 2009 21:29:00 EST. Creative's 720p pocket camcorder, better known as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/09/hands-on-shots-of-creatives-vado-hd-720p-pocket-camcorder/">Vado HD</a>, has been shipping for months now here in America, but if you're parked in one of those glorious European countries, you've been missing out. As of this week, said camcorder is shipping in Europe, though Creative fails to mention <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/08/creatives-vado-hd-720p-pocket-camcorder-now-on-sale-for-199-99/">how many</a> euros / pounds it'll take to procure. Any early adopters care to share the deal they received?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/camcorders/" rel="tag">Camcorders</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/14/creatives-vado-hd-pocket-camcorder-sails-to-europe/">Creative's Vado HD pocket camcorder sails to Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 07:01:00 EST. First was the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/netbook/">netbook</a> craze -- suddenly, everyone was cool with a miniaturized laptop. Now, the same sentiment has apparently bled over to the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/camcorder/">camcorder</a> realm, with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/12/flip-mino-goes-h-to-the-d-with-a-wsj-review/">Mino HD</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/09/30/kodaks-zi6-pocket-hd-camcorder-reviewed/">Zi6</a> and <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/VadoHD/">Vado HD</a> all vying for that precious space in your front left pocket. The latter, Creative's latest, was recently reviewed over at <em>CNET</em>, and while it'd be wonderful to find a clear cut winner, critics simply couldn't say that it was definitively superior in all ways to Flip's formidable rival. In short, the Vado HD's video quality was slightly less awesome than that of the Mino HD, but the feature set on the Creative was found to be far superior. Before pulling the trigger on either, we'd have a peek at the read link to see what aspects are most important to you.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/11/creatives-vado-hd-720p-pocket-camcorder-reviewed-toe-to-toe-wi/">Creative's Vado HD 720p pocket camcorder reviewed: toe-to-toe with Mino HD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 12:46:00 EST. Creative's <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/12/08/creatives-vado-hd-720p-pocket-camcorder-now-on-sale-for-199-99/">recently unleashed</a> Vado HD 720p pocket camcorder isn't dramatically different (design wise, anyway) than <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/07/creatives-vado-pocket-video-cam-gets-reviewed/">its predecessor</a>, but it's obviously what's tucked inside that counts. It was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/26/creatives-200-vado-hd-pocket-camcorder-ready-for-pre-order/">up for pre-order</a> late last month, but now Creative's proper successor to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/07/creatives-vado-pocket-video-cam-gets-reviewed/">Vado</a> (that'd be the Vado HD) is finally on sale and ready to ship. For those with incredibly short memories, this 720p pocket cam boasts HDMI connectivity, 8GB of inbuilt memory for up to two hours of HD footage, a carbon black chassis, 2-inch LCD screen and an integrated USB connector for easy exporting. As for pricing, the MSRP sits at $229.99, but even Creative's own webstore is offering it for $199.99.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/08/creatives-vado-hd-720p-pocket-camcorder-now-on-sale-for-199-99/">Creative's Vado HD 720p pocket camcorder now on sale for $199.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 10:07:00 EST. Creative's <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/vado">Vado</a> pocket cam hasn't been nearly as popular as the various <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/flip">Flips</a> or the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/zi6">Kodak Zi6</a>, but it looks like the company is taking another shot at it -- hot on the heels of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/12/flip-mino-goes-h-to-the-d-with-a-wsj-review/">Flip Mino HD</a>'s introduction, we're seeing hints that a Vado HD is on the way as well. All we know so far is the S$299 (US$195) pricetag printed in Creative's Singapore holiday catalog, but the short HD videos posted by a user named "Vado" on Vimeo look nice enough. Check 'em after the break -- hopefully we'll find out more soon.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/19/creative-vado-hd-pocket-camcorder-makes-a-few-cameo-appearances/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Creative Vado HD pocket camcorder makes a few cameo appearances</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/19/creative-vado-hd-pocket-camcorder-makes-a-few-cameo-appearances/">Creative Vado HD pocket camcorder makes a few cameo appearances</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 19 Nov 2008 20:03:00 EST. Sure, it might shoot 720p video, but you aren't gonna catch indie filmmakers capturing the next low-budget masterpiece on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Kodak/">Kodak</a>'s new Zi6 HD pocket video camera. The camera is Kodak's response to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/PureDigital/">Pure Digital</a>'s Flip and Creative's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Vado/">Vado</a>, complete with upright form factor, YouTube friendliness, simple as could be interface, a flip-out USB plug (with some surprising spring action), and, of course, totally shoddy video quality. The camera is powered by a pair of AA batteries, sports a 2.4-inch LCD, and can switch between VGA video, 30fps HD and 60fps HD. It'll sell for $180 in September, in black or pink, but there's only 128MB of memory on board -- you'll have to spring for an SD card if you want to do any substantial shooting.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/10/kodaks-new-zi6-hd-pocket-video-camera-for-the-youtube-set/">Kodak's new Zi6 HD pocket video camera for the YouTube set</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 00:19:00 EST. It'll sell for $180 in September, in black or pink, but there's only 128MB of memory on board -- you'll have to spring for an SD card if you want to do any substantial shooting.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodaks-zi6-hd/">Kodak's Zi6 HD</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodaks-zi6-hd/#911670"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/kodakzi6-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodaks-zi6-hd/#911675"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/kodakzi6-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodaks-zi6-hd/#911676"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/kodakzi6-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodaks-zi6-hd/#911671"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/kodakzi6-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodaks-zi6-hd/#911672"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/kodakzi6-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/10/kodaks-new-zi6-hd-pocket-video-camera-for-the-youtube-set/">Kodak's new Zi6 HD pocket video camera for the YouTube set</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 00:19:00 EST. With the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/03/pure-digital-introduces-flip-mino-video-sharing-camcorder/">Flip Mino</a> just hitting the scenes (and skyrocketing up Amazon's sales charts), there's no doubt that Creative's fighting an uphill battle with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/vado/">Vado Pocket Video Cam</a>. Designed to compete in the YouTube-friendly pocket camcorder sector, this critter was actually said to be built a bit studier than the Flip and pack a more luscious display to boot. Reviewers also found the audio quality to be (expectedly) subpar, and while video quality was decent for a sub-$100 device, the compression monster managed to make ho hum results downright ugly when clips were uploaded to the 'Tube. Still, for the market this one's aimed at (read: a market without videophiles), it's not a half bad addition to the cargo pocket arsenal -- just don't go expecting the world and you'll be fine.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/07/creatives-vado-pocket-video-cam-gets-reviewed/">Creative's Vado Pocket Video Cam gets reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 07 Jun 2008 10:23:00 EST. There's honestly not a lot of mind-blowing material in the video posted up after the jump, but it definitely delivers as advertised. You see, you've got Creative's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/12/pure-digital-reveals-youtube-friendly-flip-video-ultra-camcorder/">Flip Video</a>-combating <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/vado/">Vado cheapcorder</a> all wrapped up, and over the course of 317 seconds, it manages to slip outside of its shell and get handled. Initial impressions are dished out too (hint: they're surprisingly positive), so don't skip out on hitting the read link while your cursor is down in the general vicinity.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/31/creatives-vado-pocket-video-cam-unboxed-on-video/">Creative's Vado Pocket Video Cam unboxed on video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 31 May 2008 13:16:00 EST. <div align="left">JR.com may have <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/05/creatives-vado-cheapcorder-revealed-by-jr-com/">let the cat of the bag</a>, but Creative's not letting that stop it from getting all official with its new Vado Pocket Video Cam, which is taking square aim at the likes of Pure Digital's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/12/pure-digital-reveals-youtube-friendly-flip-video-ultra-camcorder/">Flip Video</a> cheapcorder. Like the Flip, Creative's offering comes packing a lowly-but-YouTube-friendly 640 x 480 resolution, along with 2GB of built-in memory (with no expansion options), a 2-inch display, a flip-out USB connector, and a promised two hours of battery life on a charge. Not exactly the most feature-packed camera out there (even for a budget model), but the $100 price tag is certainly right, and you can get it in your choice of silver or hot pink.<br /> </div>

It looks like Creative's getting set to muscle in on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/puredigital">Pure Digital's</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/12/pure-digital-reveals-youtube-friendly-flip-video-ultra-camcorder/">Flip Video</a> -- online retailer JR.com has specs up for something called the Vado VF0570-P, and they're basically identical to the Flip Video Ultra, apart from a slightly larger 2-inch screen. Other than that, you're getting the same 2 hours of VGA-res video on 2GB of built-in memory and YouTube support for the same $100 price. No pics or ship dates yet, but we're guessing we'll see something official pretty soon.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/05/creatives-vado-cheapcorder-revealed-by-jr-com/">Creative's Vado cheapcorder revealed by JR.com</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 05 May 2008 23:11:00 EST.
