Well, we just watched the last ten minutes of The Rundown, which means -- what else? -- we're watching Spike TV. That means two things: The VGAs are about to come on, and Sean William Scott just cut off a little piece of our soul, and devoured it wholesale. Ladies and gentlemen: The Spike 2011 VGAs. Let's do this thing. Oh God.

Remember the first time you played Tony Hawk Pro Skater? Then the above trailer for its HD remake from the 2011 VGAs should seem familiar. We can't wait to score a million-point run for the first time all over again.

Some guys will hold open a door for a lady, others might offer their jacket on a cold night. For Agent 47, he'll kill every dude in the world to ensure her safety. And they said chivalry is dead!

  • Metal Gear Solid Rising now Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, developed by Platinum Games [update]

The latest trailer for Metal Gear Solid Rising (now totally and completely Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance) has leaked onto NeoGAF ahead of tonight's anticipated Spike VGA reveal, and boy does it ever reveal stuff, primarily that the title is being developed by the over-the-top action aficionados responsible for Bayonetta, Platinum Games. The trailer also looks much more like an actual game than previous footage we've seen from Konami in the past. We're sure more will be revealed during tonight's VGAs. Update: To clarify the blatant lack of a trailer above this post, here's the poop: This was a leak, meaning that no one was supposed to see the trailer or glean information from its sparkly vissage until later tonight, during its official reveal at the Spike TV VGAs. If the suspense is literally killing you, you might be able to find a copy of it on YouTube or other streaming sites, but know that uploads we've seen have disappeared as fast as we found them. We will, of course, be posting the trailer in the highest possible quality once it is "officially" released later tonight.

  • Mike Capps: New IP is 'radically different' for Epic

When Epic finally pulls the cover off its big VGA debut this Saturday, don't be surprised if what's underneath looks nothing like a muscly space marine. Epic's Mike Capps tells GamesIndustry.biz that the recently teased IP is "radically different" for the company's internal Cary, NC team. "So this is going to be one of those projects where we try something totally different, and it just went 'boom,' because everyone had this pent up energy to do something new," Capps told the site. Exciting! So, how does Capps and Co. plan to harness this new wave of intense funnovation? You'll never guess. "I can't wait for [the team] to get back to something like Gears in the future," he continued, "because it's sort of our bread and butter, and they're going to be more energized for it." Hooray for video games!

  • Tony Hawk hints at VGA reveal of another game (probably with his name on it)

The Tony Hawk video game franchise hasn't wiped out completely -- it's just had a few years of practice sans padding or helmet. "I'll be announcing the upcoming release of something new on Sat; the same day as the Spike Video Game Awards," Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk wrote on Twitter. "Coincidence? I think not." The Tony Hawk franchise is currently hurting after two years of software that desperately tried to legitimize a skateboard peripheral. The last iteration, Shred, sold a mere 3,000 units in its first week. For comparison's sake, DJ Hero 2 sold 59,000 copies in its first two weeks of availability and Activision took that franchise out ... to a nice farm, where it can play around and roam free. [Thanks, Ron.]

All you have to do is look at the calendar to know we're suddenly going to be buried under a deluge of holiday-season-specific programming. Of course, it's not all Michael Buble's Christmas Special, with unlikely sources like Syfy channel tossing in their efforts. While cable shows like Sons of Anarchy, Boss, and Boardwalk Empire wrap their seasons up, we also have a few new entries in the form of Luck, Moonshiners, and Invention USA. Check below for the highlights this week, followed after the break by our weekly listings of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and videogames. Sons of Anarchy It's been yet another explosive season for the boys of SAMCRO, and now it's coming to an end. As is standard for the show, main character Jax is finding himself caught between the law, rival gangs, and the loyalty to his mother, wife, and best friend, all pulling in different directions. We don't know if he will avenge his father's death in the season finale, or if the entire motorcycle club will end up in jail first, but you can bet we'll be watching to find out. (December 6th, FX, 10PM) Spike TV Videogame Awards 2011 We haven't been a big fan of the Spike Videogame Award's presentation in the past, but with the promise of a peek at BioWare's next project and an Advisory Council that again includes our good friend and Joystiq EIC Chris Grant voting on the winners, maybe this is the year things get turned around. Videogames and the people who make them deserve their due like any other industry, and Spike is at least making an effort to make sure that happens. One of the other tweaks for the 2011 show is a focus on augmented reality, so that's another thing to keep an eye out for during the broadcast. (December 10th, Spike, 8PM) Eureka / Warehouse 13 / Haven For some people it takes see It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, or Peanuts to get in the holiday spirit, but if you're a fan science fiction shows then you'll want to know these are all checking in with special holiday episodes Tuesday night. As silly as Syfy's name change has been, these shows have at least maintained, if not increased, their level of quality and have dedicated audiences. The special episodes are dropping in sort of out of the blue so we don't know what to expect, but we'll give them a look -- check out a sneak peek embedded after the break.

The nominations have been announced for the somethingth annual Spike Video Game Awards. Contenders for game of the year are the expected assortment of superheroes, adventurers, artificial intelligences and dragon murder simulators. Namely, the nominated games include Batman: Arkham City, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword and Portal 2 (which came out way back in April, remember). Check out the full list of categories and nominations after the break. In the meantime, the Joystiq staff will continue to quibble about games that are missing from the list (ahem, Dead Space 2, Shadows of the Damned).

  • New Alan Wake is an XBLA game

The new Alan Wake game to be revealed at the Spike VGAs will be for Xbox Live Arcade. This was first noted as a correction in a tweet by Game Informer news editor Jim Reilly, who clarified that it's a downloadable game, and "not Alan Wake 2." The announcement was confirmed on the Alan Wake Facebook page, which also asks "Are you ready to become the Champion of Light?" We'll see the first screenshot on GI's website on Monday. These details are in keeping with reports we've received in the past. In May, Remedy head of development Oskari Häkkinen told Joystiq that a new Alan Wake project was in progress, but was not Alan Wake 2, and "neither will it be DLC." That report also offered a fall release window, which is seeming unlikely at this point. Later that same month, a rumor popped up outing the next game as "Alan Wake's Night Springs" for XBLA.

Geoff Keighley has begun ramping up the excitement for the VGA show coming December 10, revealing some of the surprises coming up at the Spike event -- but, of course, only enough that they'll still be surprises. "Alan Wake returns," he tweeted, "and BioWare unveils a new game from a new studio." In addition, Hideo Kojima will reveal "the truth about Metal Gear Solid: Rising." Man, remember Metal Gear Solid: Rising? Keighley isn't hogging all the exclusives for Spike, having graciously shared "teaser images" of the new announcements with Game Informer, who is itself no stranger to exclusives, for the December issue. Rest assured, we'll get you all the info as soon as the game media's "1%" allow it to trickle down to your prole pals at Joystiq.
