  • LG enV3 gets customer hands-on ahead of release

You might think you need to wait until May 29 to get your hands on an env3, and... well, odds are good that you're right -- but if you keep calling Verizon enough, magic can happen. One persistent customer finally got through to a sales rep uninformed enough to sell her the device well ahead of launch -- which leads us to wonder why the carrier's computers even allow that kind of crazy gaffe to occur in the first place -- but at any rate, we've been treated to a quick hands-on as a result of the error. The lucky customer seems to like the device, ultimately choosing to keep it over an Alias 2 she'd recently obtained; we're not sure we'd make the same call ourselves, but then again, we're suckers for E-Ink and we haven't used an env3. Follow the break for the video, or get on the horn with Verizon if you want one of these now -- who knows, you might get lucky. [Thanks, Ben H.]

Boy Genius Report has it on good authority (and we've now separately heard as well) that LG's enV3 -- the latest incarnation of its well-entrenched midrange dual-display QWERTY clamshell concept -- will be launching before the end of the month. May 29 is the exact date, with pricing coming in at $179.99 with a $50 rebate on a two-year contract or $299.99 full retail. It's confirmed to feature a 3 megapixel cam, 2.6-inch internal display, and an HTML-compatible browser in your choice of Slate Blue and Maroon; we're still not convinced it's a better-looking set than the model it replaces, but we're guessing Verizon will find plenty of people who are. [Thanks, Jason]

  • LG enV3 and enV Touch spotted once again, still not released

Okay, we see how it is -- this is one of those times when Verizon isn't going to have much of anything new to show by the time the official announcement comes around. We guess we're okay with that, although we imagine there are plenty of good folks out there who are dying to know exactly when that announcement will be; no new intel on that front, unfortunately, so these new pictures will have to do. Here we have the front of the maroon version of the VX9200 enV3, which -- surprise, surprise -- will succeed the enV2 (whenever Verizon finally decides to release it) with a 3 megapixel camera and QVGA internal display. The VX11000 enV Touch rests a little higher on the totem pole, replacing the Voyager with an alleged pair of wide VGA displays; interestingly, Verizon's MediaFLO-based VCAST TV service has gone missing, which leads us to question Verizon's commitment to the service. Subscription mobile TV hasn't been a stellar performer in any American or European market, and it's entirely possible that Verizon would consider letting its data network shoulder the video burden going forward -- especially as LTE comes to fruition. Anyhow, back to the matter at hand -- when are these things hitting retail?

We've seen it from the front, sure, but everybody knows the real action is around back with these things. Okay, fine, it's not -- but still, this is a phone that Verizon's going to expect to sell like hotcakes, and to do that, it's going to have to look good from every angle. The env2 is arguably one of the cooler looking devices in Verizon's lineup, and we're not so sure that this particular view is doing its successor any justice -- though the good news is that it'll apparently have a 3 megapixel cam with flash and some of that hot "Intelligent Shot" technology (whatever that is). We still need to see a whole lot more of this phone before we pass judgment, but hey, LG, just a word of warning: the pressure's on.

Doesn't look like LG and Verizon are taking any radical steps with the next generation of the popular enV line -- these snaps of the enV3 just leaked out, and at first glance it looks basically the same as the enV2. There are some differences, though: the numeric keypad is a bit more stylish, the QWERTY layout's been tweaked, and the camera's been bumped up to 3 megapixels. That's all we can spot here -- we'll see if there are any other deep surprises if and when this puppy's announced. One more pic after the break. [Via PhoneArena]
