Warlords of Draenor: New mount
Yesterday evening the Warcraft twitter feed posted a sneak-peak of what appears to be a new mount in Warlords of Draenor. It looks an awful lot like the old ravagers from The Burning Crusade, so that's my bet -- it's a ravager mount from the homeland of the ravagers themselves, just spruced up a bit. However, for the moment Blizzard seems devoid of any comment on the mount beside this particular image, so the question of how it will be obtained remains a mystery. Is it available to both factions? Is it a PvE reward? PvP reward? It looks like a ground mount from the picture, perhaps it's some kind of reward for being unable to fly in early Warlords? I guess we'll just have to wait and find out!
New mount sneak peek on Warcraft Twitter
What's this? We don't know -- but a preview of this new mount was just tweeted on the official Warcraft Twitter account. To our eyes, this looks like a flight-capable and slightly more savage version of the Reins of the Raven Lord, found in Sethekk Halls. Given that Warlords of Draenor is the next expansion and the arakkoa have their own zone, this may very well be related -- perhaps this is a preview of the mount you'll get when you purchase a Digital Deluxe pre-order? Follow @Warcraft on Twitter and win big
Well, I guess "big" is in the eye of the beholder, but for the fairly easy task of starting a Twitter account (if you don't already have one) and following @Warcraft, you could win a myriad of WoW TCG loot card codes. Ever wanted an Ethereal Plunderer, a Spectral Tiger, a Magic Rooster, or any of the other super-rare vanity items? Now would be a good time to take part in that whole social networking thing. You could even follow the official WoW.com Twitter account too if you're so inclined. Blizzard has already selected a ton of winners, and the contest runs until December 11th, 2009, so you've still get plenty of time to win. Official rules are here. It looks like Blizzard learned something from their last contest, since the prizes seem to be handed out immediately upon them choosing a winner. Of course, I suppose it's easier to get digital codes to people than t-shirts, but I also don't think it takes two months to mail a t-shirt. Either way, if you win this one, you get pretty much instant gratification. The best kind of gratification.
What's @warcraft up to?
We're not sure what this is. Hell, we're not even sure this is about Warcraft. But it came across the @warcraft twitter this afternoon with the tag "It's Coming - 11/25." That's Wednesday, so I gather we'll see either the next image or the answer to it then. This isn't the first time Blizzard has played the image game with us -- back in 2008 there was a huge deal over the Diablo 3 runes that were appearing on Blizzard's site before the Worldwide Invitational. Could this be something like that again? We're not sure. It's legitimate speculation, but this is Twitter and not a big PR/Marketing rollout, so who knows. Then again, it's possible Blizzard is learning how to correctly use social media and we're feeding into their marketing campaign, doing all the work for them. In which case, well played. Tune in Wednesday for more on this oddity.
Blizzard Twitter contest winners still await prizes [Updated]
Followers of the official Warcraft Twitter will recall that Blizzard ran a contest some months back using the #Battlecry hashtag, encouraging players to tweet a message for either the Alliance or the Horde depending on the background of their Twitter page. It was a pretty cool promotion and was a great social media activity for fans, who proudly showed their World of Warcraft allegiances throughout the contest period. An interesting post came up on Pixelated Geek the other day, however, wondering about the results of that contest and if Blizzard had ever gotten around to giving prizes to winners. Or if they'd ever gotten around to contacting the winners at all. The writer notes that he himself was a winner, having received a tweet from @Warcraft requesting for further details, an e-mail he promptly responded to. He then notes sending several more e-mails to the noted address as well as to customer service but has not yet gotten a single reply to date, nearly two and a half months after the contest ended on August 24. The author also notes several other Twitter users who were asking the same question -- as it turns out, more than a few #Battlecry winners also hadn't received prizes nor responses from Blizzard. One follower asked, "any news for the winners of #battlecry? I haven't heard or received anything yet," while another mused, "Wondering when I will receive my prize from the #Battlecry contest." Still another asked, "has anyone got their Battlecry prize yet? I haven't received anything" just last November 6. One WoW.com reader even wrote us at the end of October confirming the same thing, that he had won but had not received any word from Blizzard, much less a prize. Update: We have received word from one of the winners that Blizzard sent them an email confirming their prize will be sent soon.
Patch 3.3 PTR: Speedier Northrend reputation grinds [Updated]
The official Blizzard World of Warcraft Twitter account made the above announcement today. It is great that they are thinking of increasing the speed in which Northrend reputation is gained, but they aren't saying much more than that. Blizzard is only planning (not promising) to test (not implement) the increased rep for many (not all or even most) factions. So, while this is likely to appear on the PTR sometime in the not too distant future, what factions it will affect and when (or even if) it appears on live realms is anybody's guess.I love Twitter and it's great that Blizzard has been making use of their account for more than just their version of a Breakfast Topic, but I would prefer if they would link to more details when they release info like this. Perhaps follow it up with a forum post giving some facts or a link to a recent forum discussion of Northrend Factions.
Blizzard franchises get their own Twitter accounts
We recently learned of a quiet little announcement that Blizzard's three hot properties now each have Twitter accounts of their own. If you use Twitter, you can now follow @warcraft, @starcraft, and @diablo.All three accounts are pretty bare at the moment aside from some catchphrases, but I'm going to bet the accounts will be used as another miniature news outlet, much like the front pages of their respective websites. It's probably also safe to say we'll be seeing a lot of product and tournament plugs, too. If you're a Twitter fiend, you might want to click that follow button for them (and our account, too). If you don't normally use Twitter, it's too early to say if these accounts are anything you should go out of your way to check out. If there's any major WoW news showing up there, it will find its way here too. Your life probably won't end if you don't follow them. Probably.
