US TiVo users pick up Domino's Pizza ordering / tracking abilities

Clearly catering towards the wants, nay, needs of the average American couch potato is TiVo and Domino's Pizza, which have collaborated in order to bring on-sofa pizza ordering to broadband-connected TiVo subscribers. If you'll recall, this service was actually announced for Australia earlier this month, but users in the US of A get the first chance to indulge. 'Course, this is far from the first unorthodox method of ordering pizza, and the lack of a scheduled delivery option is certainly a weak point, but this widget does reveal that all sorts of differentiating applications could eventually find their way to a TiVo box near you. Feel free to give it a spin tonight, but don't blame us if that backlit remote gets dimmed from grease seeping into the crevices.

ASUS has SideShow flashback with OC Palm mobo companion

We know this here device is real, but excuse us while we share our skepticism of ASUS' ability to deliver -- after all, we're still waiting patiently for that ROG XG Station to actually find a price and release date. That aside, this here motherboard companion was recently demonstrated by ASUS, and apparently, it gives users the ability to monitor their PC internals, overclock devices in real time and check out widgets on the side. The OC Palm is one of the very few devices we've seen of late to actually take advantage of SideShow-like functionality, though it's only compatible with the high(er)-end P6T DELUXE mobo right now. ASUS has yet to disclose a sticker / launch date, but it's not like you didn't see that coming, right? Check the read link for lots more hands-on shots.

Hands-on with Emtrace Photoskins and WidgetStation

Emtrace makes a return to CES this year with their Photoskins, new WiFi WidgetStation version 2, and more importantly... launch details. Unfortunately, the WidgetStation 2, which appears to be the more useful of the two information appliances with that big, segmented display, is just an engineering prototype meant to gauge market reaction. Hey Emtrace, we like it. The tiny Photoskin (or is that plural?) runs Linux on an ARM920T processor and will hit the US "late summer" for about $150 with complete access to their WidgetOne website and all the Javascript-based widgets you can consume.

The Engadget search Dashboard widget

Engadget is no stranger to widgets, we've seen Dashboard and Konfabulator versions of our RSS feed in the past, but the latest in this illustrious line of widgetry is meant for searching the past instead of providing convenient updates to the present. That is to say, it's an Engadget search widget, check it out. Thanks imacmatt09 for going to the trouble!

Enwidget: Ten useful Apple Dashboard widgets

Niall Kennedy contributes Enwidget, where he explores the ins and outs of the rapidly expanding universe of glanceable information applications and devices.

Apple Dashboard widgets can be a quick way to reference your favorite data in a small heads-up-display. Just a few weeks ago we discussed some of the basic features of Tiger and Leopard widgets for Mac. Today I'll walk through some of my favorite widgets for productivity and fun.

BART transit widget
Plan your next trip on Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) with this Apple Design Award winning widget from Bret Victor. You can view multiple map renderings of the subway system, discover upcoming train arrivals, and plan the fastest route to your destination. All data is stored locally for quick offline access.

Video: Emtrace's WidgetStation

Emtrace's WidgetStation is an interesting continuation in the "hardware widget" category of devices. Granted, the utility of a dedicated clock display, plus widget display is limited, but at least getting data on your WidgetStation is expected to be simple. Last time we saw the device, it had integrated Ethernet, but no other connectivity options. Now, the company says you can also use integrated WiFi and Bluetooth to push updates. As for the meat of the device -- the widgets -- the version being shown sported built-in Flickr, GMail and a calendar app, among other widget mainstays. The downside? Right now, the widgets are all proprietary, but as the video says, Emtrace is trying to move to an open widget architecture in the future. Also, no pricing yet, but the company anticipates a Q2 launch window.

WidgetStation gives you fewer reasons to get out of bed

Korea's emTrace looks to be branching out from its smartphone-centered niche, jumping on the widget bandwagon with its beefed-up alarm clock, the WidgetStation. Packing dual LCD screens (one color, one monochrome), the device will give you at-a-glance access to all the usual information that can be widgetized, including stocks, weather, and RSS feeds, as well as integration with a desktop PIM and the ability to browse photos (but apparently not videos) stored on a desktop PC. Interestingly, while the device will let you listen to Internet radio stations, there's no mention of support for plain old AM or FM radio -- one step forward, two steps back we suppose. From the looks of it, you'll also have to plan on stringing some ethernet cable if you're thinking of using the WidgetStation very far from your router, with the device sporting an RJ-45 port but no built-in WiFi -- something others don't seem to have had any trouble doing. Still no word on price, though emTrace should be announcing that at CES if the product is launching in early 2007 as planned.
