Woody Allen settles lawsuit against Amazon over dropped movie deal
Woody Allen has ended his fight with Amazon over a dropped four-movie deal. The two sides have settled the dispute and dismissed Allen's lawsuit against Amazon in a joint notice on the night of November 8th. The terms of the settlement weren't mentioned, so it's unclear if money traded hands. However, the nature of Amazon's decision makes it unlikely that you'll see Allen releasing movies on Prime Video.
Woody Allen sues Amazon for backing out of film deals
Woody Allen filed a $68 million lawsuit against Amazon Studios today. The suit, filed with the Southern District Court of New York, claims Amazon backed out of a multi-film agreement with the controversial director over what Allen calls a "25-year-old, baseless allegation" stemming from accusations of sexual assault and abuse that have been levied against him by his daughter, Dylan Farrow.
Amazon signs Woody Allen for his first TV show
Even Woody Allen is getting into the streaming content game. The prolific writer and director has scored a deal with Amazon Studios to produce his first-ever television series. Unfortunately, there's no word on a title, casting, or even what the heck the series is going to be about. But we imagine there'll be plenty of idle chatter and an overwhelming sense of ennui. Amazon says Allen will write and direct the half-hour show, and it'll premiere on its Prime video service next year. Ever the professional, Allen seemed prepared for the challenge of television in a statement: "I don't know how I got into this," he said (and yes it's real). "I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that [Amazon Studios VP] Roy Price will regret this."
Science says: Neurotic AI has a gaming edge
While we're not sure how comfortable we are with our artificial intelligence constructs having human-like personalities attached to them, we are interested to know what affect those personalities would have on our robot overlords' videogame abilities. So we suppose it's a good thing that the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence conducted a study to see what types of AI personalities were best suited to games. The study programmed four artificial intelligence agents to play single-player Age of Mythology with four distinct play styles: aggressive, defensive, normal and neurotic, the last of which was saddled with ostensible drawbacks such as "irrational assessment of resource value" and "tendency to resort to extreme playing styles." Despite these drawbacks, though, the neurotic AI played itself to a perfect 7-0 record and, surprisingly, achieved wins 3-12 minutes faster than its opponent AI, on average.
