Every so often, Chuzzlewitt, Figglesworth and the rest of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary's Council of Elders gather around a stone in Puddingshire, where they come up with ways to modernize the English language. New words are added, archaic ones are cut, goats are sacrificed. It's all very messy -- especially when internet lingo gets involved, as is so <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/24/omg-fyi-and-lol-enter-oxford-english-dictionary-foreshadow-th/">often</a> the case. It's no different this year, with the latest class of inductees including words like "retweet," "sexting," and "cyberbullying." Also making the cut is "woot" (which is apparently spelled <em>without</em> zeroes) and "surveil," which was added primarily as a reflection of today's privacy-conscious society. In fact, the dictionary's purveyors say they make their decisions based not on intuition or cage match results, but on cultural ubiquity, which they gauge using a database of more than two billion words culled from contemporary sites. So if you're wondering why words like "jeggings" and "mankini" are now part of the English tome, you have only the internet to blame.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/19/retweet-sexting-added-to-oxford-english-dictionary-alongsi/">'Retweet,' 'sexting' added to Oxford English Dictionary, alongside words that are actually words</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 19 Aug 2011 11:31:00 EST. Desire a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tivopremiere/">TiVo Premiere XL</a> with its 1TB HDD but the price is holding you back? Woot.com is offering refurbed units for $199 today only, $100 less than the usual price from TiVo directly. You'll still need to sign up for the $12.95/month service plan with 1 year commitment and it might not make up for missing the standard Premiere DVRs when they were on the site for $65 last month, but when you're enjoying the THX certified audio and video and holding the premium backlit remote none of that will matter.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/05/woots-deal-of-the-day-is-a-refurbished-tivo-premiere-xl-for-19/">Woot's deal of the day is a refurbished TiVo Premiere XL for $199</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 05 Feb 2011 16:56:00 EST. If you were into last week's announcements from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/apple-announcing-new-apple-tv/">Apple</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/30/roku-lowers-prices-across-the-board-hd-box-now-69-99-hd-xr-t/">Roku</a> but still thought separating from even one Benjamin for a media streamer was just too much to ask, we have a solution that may work. The One Day, One Deal people at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/woot/">Woot.com</a> have picked the Netflix, Amazon VOD and UFC-streaming Roku HD-XR with WiFi N (and a 1080p upgrade practically around the corner) for today's offering, currently standing at $69.99 + $5 shipping for a refurbished unit with a 90 day warranty, which is the best deal we've seen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/27/roku-hd-xr-now-50-percent-off-for-the-first-500-to-take-the-p/">since it launched</a>. Sure, you can sit around and keep <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/appletv-vs-the-competition-how-does-it-stack-up/">thinking over the comparisons</a>, or you can just click the buy button now before they run out of stock, which could happen at any moment. Like now. Or now. Or...you get the point.<br />

You read that headline correctly: Amazon's 3G 6-inch Kindle is selling for just $149.99 on Woot, an eReader that will <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/21/amazons-kindle-conveniently-falls-to-189-nook-looks-stunned-a/">cost you <strike>$199</strike> $189</a> on Amazon's own site. It's a one day deal no doubt helped by the fact that big daddy Bezos just purchased the deal-a-day site on Wednesday. It's exclusive and it won't last forever so you'd best get to clicking if you've been on the fence.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: And it's sold out. You know what they say about the early bird...<br />

For tightfisted HD fans, Woot.com has a treat. Just a few minutes ago it posted two daily deals on Blu-ray, with the Magnavox <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/NB500/">NB500</a> player that we thought <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/19/magnavox-blu-ray-player-to-be-128-at-walmart-on-black-friday/">was a value at $128 two years ago</a> on sale as a refurb for $59.99, and four "HD Over:" scenic Blu-ray discs for $9.99, plus $5 shipping on the discs or the player. A Bonus View (Profile 1.1) Blu-ray player from two years ago isn't going to compare to the latest and greatest, but at just six Hamiltons we're sure there will be a few of you clicking "I want one!"<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/24/woot-com-lines-up-60-blu-ray-player-4-for-10-blu-ray-disc-sal/">Woot.com lines up $60 Blu-ray player, 4 for $10 Blu-ray disc sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 24 May 2010 01:18:00 EST. While it's no guarantee that a retail price drop is coming, seeing an Xbox 360 Pro selling for just $230 (plus $5 shipping) during a Woot Sellout certainly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/23/xbox-360-elite-in-white-package-in-the-wild-pro-sku-missing-on/">piles-on the evidence</a>. The Woot model is your typical 60GB Pro (rumored to have reached <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/20/did-microsoft-delay-its-price-drop-announcement-to-avoid-sonys/">end-of-life</a>) with HDMI-out, wireless controller, headset, and component AV cable. However, instead of carrying a $300 price it costs about $70 less than your nearest brick-and-mortar will charge. The best deal you'll find until the rumored price cuts get official. So what's it going to be, slim, pull the trigger or wait?<br /><br />[Thanks, Joshua W.]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/xbox-360-pro-60gb-for-230-during-woot-sellout/">Xbox 360 Pro 60GB for $230 during Woot Sellout</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 02:11:00 EST. Okay, so maybe Memorex's Profile 1.1 <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/09/18/memorex-intros-269-mvbd-2510-blu-ray-player/">MVBD-2510</a> was only $269 from the get-go, but busting through the unofficial $150 price barrier is a pretty big deal for <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/category/blu-ray/">Blu-ray</a>. Granted, we're totally <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/10/28/excess-inventory-driving-black-friday-blu-ray-sales/">expecting</a> a few more to <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/11/07/forget-black-friday-175-sony-bdp-s300-here-now/">join</a> the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/10/15/150-blu-ray-players-destined-for-black-friday/">fold</a> come <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/black+friday/">Black Friday</a>, but who's <em>not </em>all about buying from the comfort of one's home versus braving frigid temperatures only to catch eight airborne diseases and shave 2.85 years from your life due to statistically significant levels of stress on a day off? Bottom line: $139.99 for a BD deck is pretty darn cheap (even for <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2005/11/21/woot/">Woot's standards</a>), and even if there's no BD-Live support baked in, it'll still handle the 1080p basics. Okay, so maybe Memorex's Profile 1.1 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/18/memorex-intros-269-mvbd-2510-blu-ray-player/">MVBD-2510</a> was only $269 from the get-go, but busting through the unofficial $150 price barrier is a pretty big deal for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/blu-ray/">Blu-ray</a>. Granted, we're totally <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/28/excess-inventory-driving-black-friday-blu-ray-sales/">expecting</a> a few more to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/07/forget-black-friday-175-sony-bdp-s300-here-now/">join</a> the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/15/150-blu-ray-players-destined-for-black-friday/">fold</a> come <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/black+friday/">Black Friday</a>, but who's <em>not </em>all about buying from the comfort of one's home versus braving frigid temperatures only to catch eight airborne diseases and shave 2.85 years from your life due to statistically significant levels of stress on a day off? We know you've been sitting on your hands <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/06/samsung-intros-spinpoint-m6-500gb-standard-height-laptop-drive/">since January</a>, waiting for Samsung to ship this SpinPoint M6 500GB, 9.5mm laptop drive wonder. That whole "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/06/samsung-spinpoint-m6-500gb-laptop-drive-finally-on-sale-in-fr/">released in France</a>" thing was just rubbing it in your face, and we apologize, but it looks like your wait is finally over: OWC's Woot! shop has the drive for sale as of now. You can't buy one sans enclosure, but the $310 USB 2.0 + eSATA version or the $350 FireWire 800 / 400 + USB 2.0 version (there's also a $320 model) should prove useful in housing an old 2.5-inch drive, or perhaps an ant farm.<br /><br />[Thanks, Dan C.]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/10/samsung-stops-teasing-brings-spinpoint-m6-500gb-stateside/">Samsung stops teasing, brings SpinPoint M6 500GB Stateside</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 12:16:00 EST. We aren't generally ones to pass along gadget deals, but every so often an <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/11/01/toshiba-hd-a2-hd-dvd-player-100-this-friday-wal-mart/4">opportunity</a> pops up that just seems <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/22/the-80-brown-zune/">too interesting</a> to ignore. Merely 1.5 years after the highly-anticipated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/08/hands-on-with-the-samsung-q1-origami/">Q1</a> hit shelves for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/01/samsung-q1-umpc-to-go-on-sale-may-7th-for-1-100/">$1,100</a>, the UMPC is available now (in refurbished fashion) for nearly half of that. Granted, you won't be buying Sammy's latest and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/14/samsungs-q1-ultra-mobile-pc-gets-ultra-premium/">greatest</a> Q1, but maybe that inexplicably short battery life won't bother you so much when you're only shelling out $579.99. So, now that this thing has reached new lows (in price, that is), will you finally buy in, or will you try and squeeze one more year out that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/30/apple-newton-takes-down-the-samsung-q1-umpc/">Newton</a>?<br /><br />[Thanks, Ben]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tabletpcs/" rel="tag">Tablet PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/14/samsungs-q1-umpc-down-to-580/">Samsung's Q1 UMPC down to $580</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2007 16:14:00 EST. Woot -- your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/21/130-zunes-10-woot-credit-for-last-rounders/">favorite</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/22/the-80-brown-zune/">low-cost</a> Zune <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/15/zune-hits-new-low-100-cash-money/2">supplier</a> -- is movin' on up. The e-tailer is touting yet another "Woot launch," which just so happens to be a brand new InFocus DLP projector aimed at gamers and those on a budget. The metallic blue Play Big IN1 features a 640 x 480 native resolution, S-Video / component / composite inputs, 500 ANSI lumens, a 1,500:1 contrast ratio, integrated stereo speakers and headphone / RCA audio outputs. Granted, even at $499 we'd expect the specifications to be a bit more... modern. Oh, and Woot's also throwing in a set of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/25/3rd-party-wii-component-cables/">Wii component cables</a>, so there's that, and for those unfamiliar with how Woot works, we'll just suggest that you <a href="http://www.woot.com/">pull the trigger</a> now (if this piques your interest) and contemplate later.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/08/infocus-unveils-play-big-in1-dlp-projector-499-only-at-woot/">InFocus unveils Play Big IN1 DLP projector: $499 only at Woot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 08 Nov 2007 09:29:00 EST. What started as a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/22/150-zunes-buy-one-please-buy-one/">$150 white Zune</a> last month has quickly dropped to $80 of brown. If the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/22/150-zunes-buy-one-please-buy-one/">$150 white Zune</a> was too rich to Woot, then how does 30GB for $130 sound <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/17/what-kind-of-man-gets-three-zune-tattoos/">Zune boy</a>?
