Humanoids are people, too

Robots get a bad rap in entertainment, always enslaving humans here, rebelling against their safety programming there, or trying to become American citizens in the quirky, heartwarming case of Johnny 5. But in reality, robots have a long ways to go before they can even effectively help around the house, much less lock us inside and hold us ransom for "more megabytes." Humanoid robots in particular face a considerable challenge in integrating into our society: while some single-purpose robots (such as the Roomba) have emerged on the market, the challenges facing the development and programming of a humanoid robot are about as complicated as the human body researchers are looking to emulate.
