It doesn't matter what you use for pushing your email, it still needs to go thru RIM's servers in Canada.

BB-Outage is a mail list for people to notify others if RIM's service is down in a particular area. if RIM is down in China, US, A particular state, city, etc, for people then post the area to the list so others are notified. I've tried a bunch. The latest being the free offering from Consilient. It works well and I can use it on my new SE K810. The following information is current as of 09:00 on April 18, 2007. All times are EDT.

On April 17, 2007, at approximately 20:15 EDT, the BlackBerry Network Operations Center (NOC) started investigating monitoring alerts in regards to issues with BlackBerry service in the Americas. BlackBerry subscribers in the Americas were unable to receive messages and received an "x" when sending messages. Subscribers were unable to use BlackBerry Email Roaming to or from the Americas.

Initial investigations revealed an issue with the BlackBerry® Infrastructure. Subsequent troubleshooting efforts were not immediately successful in restoring service. At approximately 02:00 on April 18, in an effort to restore service, the components and services for the BlackBerry Infrastructure for the Americas were restarted. Since approximately 05:45, the service has been operating near expected traffic levels. Some subscribers may continue to see delays until message queues are cleared. The BlackBerry Support team is continuing to investigate reports of any remaining issues.

The root cause of this issue is under investigation.

Please note that the ability for subscribers to place telephone calls from voice-enabled devices was not affected during this event.

Honestly if you are using exchange server 2003 or above, why would you use blackberry and pay a crap load of more money?

Exchange does direct push just fine with Treos, Blackjacks, Q's, etc. It just doesn't make sense.

1) with the pseudo-push email enabled in Exchange 2003 through the Microsoft Messaging Security Feature Pack (MSFP), battery life on Treos dives south of 36 hours between charges if you set it to "Always Up To Date". You can do better if you schedule your synchs every 4 hours, but that sort of misses the point of push email.
2) management through Exchange 2003 for mobile devices is laughable at best, and not scalable at all for the enterprise
3) there is no wireless provisioning
4) you cannot control access to features like bluetooth or WiFi
5) there is only one security policy available for all users, although you can explicitly exclude individuals or groups from it
6) the user's domain credentials are cached on the handheld device
