But it's not terrible for checking email, some crucial AIM conversations--yes, they can be crucial, and hitting up a favorite (en)gadget site. Hell, my connection went out last week while doing a project, so I had to teether a connection on my PC via EDGE, I only had to gather some fairly low res pictures and text, though. Of course it wasn't HSPDA or broadband quick, it was passable.

But, yeah, I am sure those 3G lovin' and accustomed Europeans are going to have fun with EDGE. Maybe now they'll know what it feels like for us to import those European phones with 3G Euro coverage but only US EDGE. As for all of the talk about Rogers and their data plans, it's all too true that their current structure just would not allow the iPhone to be used in the way it is intended. That being said, Rogers has recently rolled out newer price structures for calling including nationwide unlimited calling that are starting to mirror some of the unlimited plans south of the border. If they are willing to make similar changes to support the iPhone, it could work ...

I'm sure the delay has been at least in part due to the trademark dispute. I have a feeling though, that Apple will not actually delay its plans beyond the time when Rogers has signed a deal. And ironically, both Telus and Bell Mobility, who are the other two carriers and both CDMA, are now offering flat rate unlimited data plans on their EVDO network. Not exactly great rates - Telus wants $100/mo and Bell Mobility wants $75/mo, but it's still better than nothing.

So Rogers will have to come up with something to match sooner than later... which plays to the iPhone's introduction in Canada.

But don't expect a $20/mo plan anytime soon.

Oh, and Fido side of Rogers/Fido is the 'low rent' side of Rogers aimed at non-contract users and younger and first time cell phone users. Yea, he's pretty much stealing left, right and cenTRE (!) But that;s what you drove him to Ted!! That's what you drove him to!

Honestly, I think that anybody wanting an iPhone like I said, needs to go to Buffalo like everyone else and pick it up. And don't buy from the Douchebags on craigslist charging a $150 tariff on a phone that cost them at most, $30 to get.

It'll be a long Canadian winter before the iPhone shows it's face in this country.
