There would have to be ONE HELL of a fast connection between an external vidcard of this magnitude and the mobo/CPU. There's a LOT of info that would need to travel in between the two. You probably shouldn't hold your breath on that one.
I'm personally waiting for these companies to start focusing on increasing efficiency. Make these super fast GPUs, but make them a REASONABLE SIZE again. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. I mean, in my current case (which is huge, btw) I can fit 2 8800's or 2 of these and a sound card and that's it. What the hell, dude.
I'm glad to finally see the R600 based GPU card in existence. Now to wait for an 8800 price drop. 8^D
I agree, there would be engineering challenges, but with a simple ribbon cable, or SCSI-like adapter, it could be done. And yes, I want the 8800 GTX to drop its price too. I remember when the fastest video card on the market was less than $200 in 1997. It's crazy to think about paying $800 for an OC edition 8800 GTX, or *gulp*, two of them!
