How to add internal WiFi to a laptop

Marc Perton

wifi card self installIf you've picked up a laptop that doesn't have an internal WiFi card, your first inclination is probably to grab a PCMCIA card, which you can typically pick up for under $100 and install in about 10 minutes. However, if you don't want an antenna slab to stick out of the side of your computer, don't have a spare card slot, or would prefer the reliability of an internally mounted card, you can check out these tips on a DIY internal install from Tom's Networking. Be forewarned; this will only work on notebooks that have both an integrated antenna and a mini-PCI slot (meaning the manufacturer has included the capability but was too cheap to include the card).
