Paris Hilton hackers used social engineering
We would be remiss if we didn't follow up on what was basically a daily news story for a while there — it seems that the upshot of the whole Paris Hilton hacking brouhaha was that a group of teens used a combination of technical exploitation and social engineering to get the dirt (and dirty, it was) on Paris's doings. They first exploited a flaw on T-Mobile's website to get into user accounts, and followed that with a bit of an acting stint when one posed as a T-Mobile company supervisor to get an employee to reveal a password into the company network — ahhh, the joys and perils of the large organization, where no one questions a "company supervisor" who is a complete stranger. Anywho, apparently the young hackers were part of the same group that was involved in the LexisNexis identity theft scandal, and at least one of them has been slapped with a search warrant by the FBI. We're sure Paris would like to give 'em a good slapping, as well. Now that would be some happy slapping, and some more pics worth stealing.
