Lackluster Lite launch in UK, Nintendo still committed to DS Phat

GamesIndustry.biz reports that 35,000 DS Lite units were sold during the handheld's debut weekend in the UK. By comparison, 87,000 units of the original DS (or 'DS Phat') were sold during its UK launch.

Meanwhile, as the DS Lite was being released across Europe, Nintendo UK was busy affirming its commitment to DS Phat, which saw a sales surge two weeks ago in Japan. "We're still committed to the old DS as long as there's demand," said a Nintendo UK spokesperson. "Don't forget that the Pink and Blue DS units are only available in the old model, which account for a large percentage of our sales to girls." Of course, if current rumors are to be trusted, DS Lite will get pretty in pink as early as July.
