X3F Achievements 101: Of Ninjas and Darklings

Welcome to another edition of X3F Achievements 101, and this week we touch on some of the builds used in Shadowrun while getting the Achievements for playing 100 matches as each race, and the fun found in being a Katan00b, though scoring bleed outs takes far more skill that just mashing the right trigger on your enemy and hoping for a kill. I also dabbed into the multiplayer portion of The Darkness, and scored some Achievements in that, as well as finally getting some overdue ones in the game's single player story. All of this and more can be found after the break.

Recently, in Shadowrun, I've been working on getting the Achievements for playing specific races for 100 matches. Also worth noting is that if the server leaves the game, and you see the "Selecting new server" message, that counts towards your total games played as that race. Lately, I've been playing as a Troll, and at the same time been working on getting my Master Ninja Achievement by getting 100 fatal wounds with the Katana at the same time. At the beginning of the weekend, I got my Troll Player, and moved onto Elf, but still wielded the Katana.

My Troll ninja build was a lot of fun, as I had Wired Reflexes, Smoke and either Gust or Teleport as my third mapped item, with Tree available for quick cast. With the Elf, I've been specializing in catching enemies unawares, so my build with him is Teleport, Enhanced Vision, and Anti-Magic Generators. The use of AMGs is really handy, as sometimes my prey will cast Tree of Life or try to smoke away. Once I take their Essence out the equation, they're helpless and inevitably meet their doom. After a particularly fruitful match on Maelstrom, I got my Master Ninja Achievement and the 100 Gamerscore that comes with it.

I picked up "Zombie Scores!" in passing on Temple Grounds, and got "That's One Frustrated Sniper." by having a teammate fire at me with his Sniper Rifle. Speaking of the Sniper Rifle, I started getting some kills with it, though I'm a long way from getting 100 with either that or a minion with the Summon spell. I also need Healer, and to get 5 Strangle kills, among others. In time, I suppose. My goal is to try and get 1000 on Shadowrun before Halo 3 hits next month, so we'll see how that goes.

I went back to The Darkness, and got my feet wet in the multiplayer mode, scoring Achievements in the Capture the flag gametype as well as getting 8 killing sprees. The beauty about capture the flag is that you can play with a friend on the same team against nobody and just run flags between the two of you. The recommended setup for a multiplayer match is that fortunately you can use Player matches for your games, and have it set on a small map like Asylum, and make your characters Shapeshifters, so that you can transform into Darklings on the fly and capture the flags a lot quicker than you would as a human. Set the cap limit to three, so you have quick games, under two minutes if you're the only one capping, and going towards your 50 caps Achievement. If you're trading off caps for quicker games, to go towards 250 games won, you can get a match done in under a minute if your partner is waiting at the enemy flag as you capture it, tag-team style.

I also finally got an Achievement for completing the campaign, though only for the normal difficulty. It gave it to me upon finishing the fourth chapter, as I did the fifth on normal as a test when I first didn't get awarded the Hard difficulty Achievement. So now I'm back on the first chapter on Hard, but I may not have to play through the whole story again for it to count as "complete". We'll have to see how that goes.

Unfortunately, that'll be all I really got in terms of Achievement news, other than the rental place a block from where I lived closed down, so I need to go farther for my cheap Achievements. I'm probably going to crack into Open Season soon, then start working through some of the easier ones I own, such as LEGO Star Wars II and Oblivion. As for organizing those multiplayer matches, perhaps I'll make a sign-up post during the week to schedule for the weekend so we can get the ball rolling on that front. Anyway, thanks for reading X3F Achievements 101 and don't hesitate to contact me via one of the methods below with you comments, questions, suggestions, or offerings of time for Achievement trading.
