Canadians serious aboot gaming: sales reach $1.7 billion

Canadians spent a record 2.09 billion of their colorful money (that's $1.7 billion US) on video games last year. NPD told the CBC news that the great nation saw a sales increase of 23% over the last year, with a total of 1.9 million consoles sold. Naturally, the Wii took a big chunk of the enchilada moose burger with 44.1% of that sales total; Xbox 360 had 25.5% and PS3 was close behind at 21.7%.

NPD gives a standard "duh" statement to the news org, saying that the Wii has a great price point and has expanded the market past the traditional gamer. So, uh ... what's going on over in Mexico?
