Skiff partners with Samsung to deliver e-stuff, someday

After a flurry of announcements in December and January, things have gone quiet in the Skiff camp as Hearst prepares to launch its publisher-focused Kindle Store competitor. Now in addition to its massive Skiff Reader and apps for Palm WebOS devices, MIDs, and yes the iPad, President Gil Fuchsberg announced at CTIA that Skiff and Samsung would partner to deliver electronic newspapers, magazines, blogs, and books across "a range of Samsung devices." Specifically, Gil called out the Android-based Galaxy S with that impressive 4 inch, Super AMOLED display. But unless Samsung's wrapped up some kind of exclusivity (which we doubt) then we should see a generic Skiff app for any Android device appear in the Android Market. Now how about a launch date Skiff for something, anything. Pretty please, with an Eclair on top? Read the full transcript of the partnership after the break.

Gil Fuchsberg, President, Skiff

Thank you for that kind introduction, Omar.

Skiff's mission is delivering the next generation of e-reading to consumers. So it's fitting that we're here today with Samsung, showcasing the next wave in smartphones.

When the Skiff Store and service launch later on this year, we'll offer a comprehensive selection of content from leading magazines, newspapers, books and blogs.

As a preferred e-reading service partner across a range of Samsung devices, we'll feature newspapers like The New York Times and Financial Times; magazines such as Forbes, Esquire and -- for the one or two of you who might care about topics like technology and science -- Popular Mechanics; as well as bestselling ebooks from publishers including Random House and Simon & Schuster.

Skiff will deliver premium content to dedicated e-readers, as well as tablets, netbooks and PCs. But we want to make sure consumers can read whatever they want, whenever they want, and wherever they want. So, perhaps most exciting to emphasize today, Skiff will also optimize e-reading content for wireless delivery to innovative smart phones like the Galaxy S.

Skiff and Samsung are working together to produce a great e-reading experience for the Galaxy S; featuring visually appealing layouts, high-resolution graphics, rich typography and dynamic updates.

Devices that carry the Skiff Store and service must offer best-in-class in technology, speed and performance. And, I'm happy to say that the Galaxy S smart phone more than surpasses all of these vital criteria.

In particular, the Galaxy S's large vibrant display and elegant ability to experience and navigate content will allow consumers to really dive in and engage with the newspaper, magazine, book and blog content that they care most about.

Skiff is excited to be working with Samsung and top publishers to bring premium e-reading content to consumers. And as the old saying goes, "the best is yet to come."

Thank you for your time today. And thank you Samsung for your innovation and leadership. Omar, back to you.
