NintendoWare Weekly: Furry Legends, Scrabble Tools

Nintendo's perfect no-Virtual Console streak continues with no retro re-releases announced for July. As usual, there are plenty of choices on WiiWare and DSiWare, including Gamelion's Furry Legends, which is an interesting-looking side-scroller ... despite the name.

DSiWare this week is mostly populated by insane minigames, time-management games, and sudoku -- the unique mix of not-that-interesting stuff that seems to characterize the service every week. Most interesting? A game designed to make you better at Scrabble.

WiiWare

  • AquaSpace (Nintendo, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): This aquarium program includes an encyclopedia function, so you can learn about the fish in your virtual tank. You can also send a Mii into the tank to feed the fish, find trivia icons, or just to swim around. That's just weird.

  • Furry Legends (Gamelion, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points): After a seemingly endless delay, this platformer is finally available. Various "Furball" creatures fight to save themselves from the "Squaries" using unique abilities, like time manipulation and super speed.

  • HoopWorld (Virtual Toys, 1-2 player, 1,000 Wii Points): Arcade-style three-on-three basketball, set in a world full of people playing three-on-three basketball instinctively.

DSiWare

  • Petz Kittens (Ubisoft, 1 player, 800 DSi Points): Inspired by kittens! Adopt newborn kittens, feed and care for them, and then ... play minigames together.

  • Scrabble Tools (EA, 1-4 players, 500 DSi Points): You may think Scrabble training exercises for your vocabulary and strategy don't sound like fun, but imagine the fun of destroying all your friends during the next Scrabble game. That "Q" tile will land on the triple-word score space like a brick.

  • Hospital Havoc (Hands-on Mobile, 1 player, 500 DSi Points): Run a hospital Diner Dash-style -- whereas that game offers you the chance to serve food to impatient customers, now you're serving life-saving medicine to teeming hordes of patients.

  • Happy Birthday Mart (Pixel Federation, 1 player, 500 DSi Points): Run a store in which you sell gifts to animals.

  • Crazy Sudoku (dtp entertainment, 1-2 players, 200 DSi Points): More sudoku! Isn't that crazy?
