Exclusive: New Hero:108 Online developer diary
The kind folks at Beanfun have treated Massively to a second exclusive developer diary and a handful of brand-new screenshots for their upcoming game, Hero:108 Online.
The newest diary is all about a rivalry between Mighty Ray and Mystique Sonia, two characters in the game. It takes the form of a mock interview with their squad leader, Mr. NoHands, and is a cute read that gives a bit of backstory on some of the characters you'll encounter in the game.
Hero:108 Online is gaining a fair amount of attention among MMO players in spite of its youth-oriented presentation, thanks to its polish and quirky gameplay style. It's in open beta right now, so give it a try -- right after you look after the cut for the full "interview."
The Hidden Lands' Biggest Rivalry
Throughout history, there have been many strange rivalries, but none can truly match the insanity of Hero: 108's Mystique Sonia and Mighty Ray. The sleek and icy Sonia and the stout and fiery Ray make oil and water look like best friends! I recently sat down with Mystique Sonia and Mighty Ray's squad leader, Mr. NoHands (abbreviated NH), in an attempt to discover where this rivalry began and what has kept it going strong for so many years.
JE: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me, Mr. No Hands. I know the Hidden Lands are constantly threatened by HighRoller and his minions, so your schedule is usually quite full.
NH: It's no trouble at all.
JE: Has there ever been a time when Mystique Sonia and Mighty Ray could stand one another? How long ago would you say this rivalry began?
NH: Hmmm... I don't think there has been a time when those two weren't screaming at each other! Day and night, all I hear is "Banana Brain!" or "Bun-Eating Bozo!" – it's enough to drive First Squad insane! From the moment those two met, it's been impossible for them to get along. They're always trying to outdo one another.
JE: What's the worst thing their rivalry has caused?
NH: Let's see... Once, they got into a strength competition -- Mystique Sonia's tongue versus Mighty Ray's arm. Mystique Sonia lost, but she decided to get her revenge by eating a huge crop of her strength buns. She ate so many, she turned into a giant blob and nearly squashed her turtle tank flat! Poor little guy was sore for days...
Even worse, their rivalry has incited other rivalries! Some of the GMs of Hero: 108 Online have begun to fight one another to determine who is best – Sonia or Ray! If this keeps up, who knows what will happen next!
JE: That does sound serious... Do you think there's an underlying cause for this constant competition?
NH: Well... You know what they say about "opposites attracting"... My guess is that those two actually lik-
Mystique Sonia: WHAT!? Me!? A-And him!? Blegh! That's disgusting!
Mighty Ray: I'd rather eat a hundred bananas all at once!
Mystique Sonia: You should! Then you'll really be a Banana Brain!
Mighty Ray: W-Why you! Come back here!
NH: *sigh*
