The Smurfs Dance Party getting down this July

While the Joystiq staff continues to mull over the possibility that this is a sign of the Apocalypse, please know that Ubisoft has officially unveiled The Smurfs Dance Party, which was first rumored in April. The game will allow players to "dance alongside their favorite characters and heroes from the feature film, including Smurfette, Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Brainy, Gutsy and Gargamel." Wait, Gargamel? He's the bad guy!

The Smurfs Dance Party will debut exclusively on the Wii this July and will include both "chart-topping hits" and "classic tunes" set to "20 fun dances, all created by professional choreographers and led by the legendary blue characters." Another Smurfs title -- a mini-game collection, to be precise -- is also planned for the DS.

PREPARE TO BOOGIE IN UBISOFT® ENTERTAINMENT'S NEW VIDEO GAME, THE SMURFS™ DANCE PARTY

SAN FRANCISCO – May 17, 2011 – Ubisoft has announced details for The Smurfs™ Dance Party, a new dance video game based on Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation's 3D family comedy, The Smurfs. Developed for the Wii™ system, The Smurfs Dance Party mixes chart-topping tracks with classic tunes in over 20 fun dances, all created by professional choreographers and led by the legendary blue characters. The Smurfs Dance Party hits stores in July.

In The Smurfs Dance Party, kids and parents can dance alongside their favorite characters and heroes from the feature film, including Smurfette, Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Brainy, Gutsy and Gargamel. Players can enjoy moving to a wide selection of musical genres, including Pop, R&B, Rock and Punk. Each track has unique choreography and can accommodate up to four dancers in Party Mode.

A Smurfs-themed video game will also be available on the Nintendo DS™ system. They will also be able to read and interact with stories based on The Smurfs movie.

The Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen in Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation's hybrid live-action and animated family comedy, The Smurfs. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, through a magical portal, and into our world, they land in the middle of New York's Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down. Directed by Raja Gosnell. The producer is Jordan Kerner. The screenplay is by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss and Jay Scherick & David Ronn from a story by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss, based on the Characters and Works of Peyo.

Ubisoft's partnership with Sony Pictures Animation on the development of The Smurfs video game is the fourth collaboration in a successful relationship that includes top-selling video games based on Sony Pictures Animation's previous animated sensations Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Open Season and the Oscar®-nominated Best Animated Feature, Surf's Up.
