LAST.FM CREATES A NEW WAY TO DISCOVER INDEPENDENT MUSIC

Leading music discovery site, Last.fm, today announces the launch of Last.fm Discover, a new global music tool that harnesses Last.fm's library of three million tracks by emerging, independent artists. Sponsored by Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9, the HTML5 app sits within Last.fm to give music fans access to the biggest library of independent music in the world.

Last.fm Discover (http://www.last.fm/discover) helps global music fans with vastly different tastes make their own independent music discoveries, building on the success that Last.fm has achieved in helping break critically acclaimed artists.

From Newgrass to Indietronica, the tool Last.fm Discover allows users access to music genres that suit everyone's tastes, free of charge and without commercials. The new tool will allow unlimited skips, listens and the ability to showcase their curation skills by making mini mixtapes of newly discovered music, all easily shareable online with their friends and networks.

"Our team has grappled over the years on how to best overcome the barriers of discovering new music, whether it be finding new artists from around the globe, downloading tracks or sharing with friends. Last.fm Discover solves this problem," said Matthew Hawn, VP of Product at Last.fm. "By working with the Microsoft innovation team we're able to bring a huge library of independent music to new audiences. We want people to discover, listen and share new music and Last.fm Discover gives a new and engaging way of doing just that."

Working with London design studio Somethin' Else and thanks to support from Microsoft's innovation team, Last.fm have created an immersive and visually rich web experience that builds on the music communities core strengths. That experience is fully realized and optimized to work perfectly with the latest version of Internet Explorer. Last.fm Discover will also work with all modern web browsers.

Gabby Hegerty, Internet Explorer Lead, UK said: "We're always looking for new and outstanding ways to bring fantastic HTML5 experiences to Internet Explorer 9 users, and this new site from Last.fm will not disappoint. With Internet Explorer 9, websites feel much more like a native Windows application, where the focus is on the site, and in this case discoverability of great music, rather than the browser."
