Is the Silver Hand still around? There was a disagreement about this in the KYL article yesterday.

Nope, it was officially rolled into the Argent Crusade, along with the Argent Dawn. Note that argent is another word for silver (as an adjective).

what happened to the new level 80 armor sets that blizzard talked about for fresh level 80s

Blizzard never said word one about them. The level 80 armor "sets" were discovered in the game files some time ago and as of right now, nothing has been done with them. Remember that it took a year or so for the Celestial Dragon pet to be added to the game proper after it was discovered in the game files.

Has anyone else noticed that the server selection screen shows most of the "low" population servers as PvP realms?

Players are generally less interested in PvP servers, especially at this point in the game's life. PvE servers are just more popular. Less threat of death while wandering the world, less chance to be inconvenienced while just trying to do your dailies ... I don't blame anybody for picking PvE.

Back from a break. In a random if a boe drops and you need it does it auto soul bound on you? Some boots dropped and I needed then a pair dropped from a boss. I was going to have the group roll for the first pair but they were sb.

Yep, if you roll need on an item in a group, it binds to you (if possible). This is a new mechanic designed to curb ninja rolls.
