Samsung introduces WiFi SmartCam and video baby monitor (update: hands-on!)

For those keen on observing from afar, Samsung's just unveiled two WiFi surveillance cameras. Both can easily be paired with routers that support WPS and offer remote tracking from Sammy's SmartCam website. That video feed is 640 x 480 at 30fps and encoded in H.264. Alternatively on the WiFi SmartCam, footage can automatically be uploaded to YouTube based on predefined activity. And both'll survey in complete darkness thanks to built-in infrared -- up to a few meters at least. Catch either in March when they go on sale for a cool $149. PR, per usual is after the break.

Samsung's Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor seamlessly integrates with the connected lifestyle of today's tech-savvy parents

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Samsung Techwin America, a leader in consumer video monitoring and security products, proudly introduced its Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor at CES 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A recipient of a 2012 Innovations Design and Engineering Award, Samsung's new Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor offers industry leading design, technology and security, making it the ultimate solution for parents looking to keep a safe eye on their children. With convenience top of mind, Samsung will also provide free apps for mobile platforms, including Android and iOS, so that parents can see through the lens of the camera no matter where in the world they may be and from nearly any mobile device.

"Parents turn to video baby monitors because they're looking for peace of mind, and with Samsung's new Wi-Fi solution we're showing here at CES 2012, they're getting that and a whole lot more," said Mike Palazzolo, Vice President Sales and Marketing, consumer video monitoring and security products, Samsung Techwin America. "Samsung is putting the latest in wireless and IP technologies right in the palms of parents' hands, but has done so in a way that delivers unmatched simplicity and flexibility."

There is no limit to the amount of cameras that can be added to an account as users can register, label and view live footage from each using their one login.

Thanks to a compact design that measures just 1.25" thick and 3.15" in diameter, the Wi‑Fi Video Baby Monitor can be placed just about anywhere and also comes with a swiveling bracket which will allow parents to mount the device to a wall. Further adjustment is possible thanks to the lens which can tilt from 0° ~ 150°. In addition, for applications in low-light, such as monitoring a child during sleep, Samsung has included non-visible infrared LEDs which will allow parents to view their children in complete the dark.

With an embedded mic and speakers, Samsung's Wi-Fi Video Baby monitor is also capable of two-way talk and can be configured to automatically record video (640x480 / 30fps / H.264) when motion or sound is detected. That footage will automatically be uploaded to a secure YouTube account and users will be notified of the event via real time push notifications.

Samsung Brings the Connected Experience to Ordinary HDTVs

The new Wi-Fi inTouch camera system offers HD Skype™ video and pre-loaded apps

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Samsung Techwin America, a leader in consumer video monitoring and security products, today unveiled its inTouch camera system at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Boasting Wi-Fi technology, 720p high-definition video and a range of pre-loaded apps and functionalities, including Skype™, YouTube and full Web browsing, the Samsung inTouch brings the internet connected experience straight to the living rooms of consumers with ordinary HDTVs.

"While internet connected HDTVs are now common, not every household gets to experience this fun and interactive feature, especially if they have an HDTV purchased just a few years ago," said Mike Palazzolo, Vice President Sales and Marketing, consumer video monitoring and security products, Samsung Techwin America. "With the inTouch camera system, Samsung is now bridging the gap between this experience and those consumers who own HDTVs without networking capability."

Simplicity and Elegance
Samsung is known and revered throughout the world for the industry-leading design of its consumer electronics devices, and its new inTouch camera system is no exception. The inTouch camera system offers an elegant and compact form factor that allows it to seamlessly blend in with the design of any home entertainment system or living room.

The inTouch camera can be securely placed on top of an HDTV, shelf or table, and thanks to a tilt range of -30 degrees ~ 0 degrees, users can easily adjust the camera so that everyone can be in the shot. The Samsung inTouch offers an effortless connection to a wireless network, and hooking up the camera to an HDTV requires just one HDMI cable.

Connect With Family and Friends
Plugged into Skype and with an embedded mic and speakers, Samsung's inTouch camera system gives consumers the ability to connect with family and friends around the world in high-definition, right from the comfort of their own living rooms. Whether it is grandparents calling to check in on the kids from across the country, parents reading their children a story while away on a business trip, or a simple chat with a longtime friend, the possibilities are endless.

In addition to Skype, the Samsung inTouch camera system is also pre-loaded with a range of apps which instantly give any ordinary HDTV an internet connected makeover. Apps such as YouTube and Google News and Weather bring important information and entertainment right to the screen, and a Web browser allows consumers to fully access and enjoy all that the Internet has to offer. Navigation is also made easy with the inclusion of a palm-sized QWERTY keyboard which puts everything the consumer needs right at their fingertips and makes checking email or instant messaging with friends a breeze.

Capture and Share Memories
The Samsung inTouch camera also offers an easy-to-use photos app that essentially transforms an HDTV into a high-definition picture frame. Consumers can snap still images at three megapixel resolution, or insert their own using the integrated USB port, which can be reviewed in a gallery or enjoyed in a slideshow. Images can also be shared with friends and family by uploading directly from the inTouch to many of today's popular social networking sites.

The Samsung inTouch will be available March 2012 and will retail for $199.99.
