Plants vs. Zombies iOS receives hefty update

PopCap has released updates to the iPad and iPhone versions of Plants vs. Zombies, bringing it more in line with its non-mobile counterparts. The iPad version sees the bulk of the updates, adding several new game modes, mini-games, achievements and leaderboards. Specifically, it adds the Zen Garden, Vasebreaker Endless and I, Zombie modes, along with the Slot Machine mini-game. An optional mini-game pack including Zombiquarium, Portal Combat and Beghouled Twist can also be unlocked with in-game currency (earned either through gameplay or, you guessed it, in-app purchase).

The iPhone and iPod Touch version, meanwhile, receives only the Vasebreaker mode, additional achievements and leaderboards. The update is available now. Whether or not you have any free time available, well, that's something else entirely.

Apple Smart Device Users Get New Game Modes, Mini-Games and a Multitude of Gameplay Options

SEATTLE, Washington-April 19, 2012-PopCap Games, the worldwide leader in casual video games, today announced the global release of major updates to Plants vs. Zombies™ HD for the iPad® and Plants vs. Zombies for the iPhone® and iPod® touch. These robust updates deliver the additional content, action and challenge that Apple smart device users have been anticipating, and are available immediately from the Apple App Store, or via iTunes for U.S. $6.99 (iPad) and U.S $2.99 (iPhone and iPod touch). Existing customers can download the updates at no cost. Some of the newly added content is completely free, while some must be purchased with in-game currency that can in turn be earned through gameplay or purchased via micro-transaction.

-Additional coin packs: In-app coin purchases allow players to accelerate game progress much faster than is possible through straight gameplay. Coin packs are available in increments of 100,000 – 250,000 coins ranging from U.S. $.99 – $3.99 with options, including:
