Jetpack Joyride beta now on Facebook

Those of you who work in an office environment: we suggest you just keep right on movin'. For everyone else, please enjoy the following news: Jetpack Joyride is now playable on Facebook for free. Yes, adventure after adventure after adventure with Barry Steakfries is now just a few clicks (and a few onerous Facebook permissions) away.

It's worth noting that the game is currently in beta, and some of the seams are definitely showing. The visuals aren't terribly sharp and we even ran into some display issues, specifically if your browser view settings are zoomed in.

Again though, it's Jetpack Joyride, excitingly and horrifyingly more available than ever.

Halbfrick's Endless Joyride Now in Beta

BRISBANE, Australia - May, 11, 2012 - Buckle up's going to be a bumpy ride! Halfbrick, the leading Australian game developer behind the smash hit franchise Fruit Ninja, today announced that its chart-topping mobile sensation Jetpack Joyride is now available on Facebook. Currently in beta, this new, free-to-play version will bring one of the most popular mobile games to the world's largest social network.

Based on the extremely popular mobile version, Jetpack Joyride for Facebook stars the loveable Halfbrick hero Barry Steakfries on his latest adventure. Down on his luck, Barry discovers the ultimate opportunity to turn his boring life into one of adventure. Inside a "secret" evil laboratory filled with jetpacks and mysterious obstacles, he commandeers the fun-fueled technology to escape atop a shower of bullets, rainbows, bubbles and more in an addictive endless runner style action game.

"With Jetpack Joyride's success on the iOS platform, it only made sense for us to bring Barry and his mischievousness to the entire Facebook community," said Phil Larsen, chief marketing officer at Halfbrick. "The active and casual nature of Facebook gaming allows us to do even more with the beloved franchise and focus on the game's addictive competitive elements and endless replayability."

This new version of Jetpack Joyride will allow players to compete with friends on Facebook by dodging obstacles, collecting coins and piloting vehicles in pursuit of the high score. Through microtransactions and achievements, joyriders looking to take the top spot can customize Barry and upgrade his gear with the craziest technology, like coin magnets, x-ray specs, score boosting bombs and even a Golden Piggy jetpack. In addition, players will also be able to save in-game screenshots directly on to their Facebook pages.

Already a breakout success on the mobile platform, Jetpack Joyride has eclipsed 25 million downloads and has earned a 90% aggregated score on Metacritic - higher than any other mobile title. The game was also a Spike Video Game Award nominee for Best Handheld/Mobile Game in 2011.
