iPad, iPhone usage grows among US teens

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is back at it with another survey looking at Apple ownership. As reported by MacRumors, this latest report focuses on US teenagers and asks 7,700 of them about their gadget-buying habits. Not surprisingly, the iPhone and iPad are growing in popularity among consumers in this age group.

The report shows that 40 percent of the teenage respondents currently own an iPhone, up from 34 percent in spring 2012. Of those who are planning to buy a new phone, 62 percent say they plan to buy an iPhone.

A similar increase was noted for tablets, with 44 percent of teenagers in the survey owning a tablet device. Of those with a tablet, a whopping 72 percent have an iPad. This is a trend that will likely continue as 20 percent of those surveyed say they plan to buy a tablet in the next six months. About 74 percent of these tablet buyers will buy an iPad over competing devices such as the Kindle Fire HD and Galaxy Note II.
