Sky refreshes mobile app, lets you remotely download on-demand content to your Sky Box

Sky is ensuring that you'll have some TV to binge on once all of that turkey's been polished off. It's updated the Sky+ app to include on-demand listings, letting you set programs to download to your Sky Box remotely. That way, if you're trapped upstairs, you can tee-up a half-day's worth of Game of Thrones to make leaving the TV room worth your while. That said, if you just want to watch the shows while you're pretending to shoot the breeze with your relatives, there's always Sky Go.

Update: Sky has added that remote downloading only currently works while at home (presumably on the same network), but it's planning to add a roaming functionality at a later date.

Sky serves up a seasonal stocking filler for Sky+ app users this Christmas

- Download box sets, TV shows and movies direct to your Sky+HD box from anywhere in the home via iPad, iPhone, iPad Mini and iPod touch -

- Latest Sky+ app update further enhances Sky's TV On Demand service

12th December: Following several updates to its On Demand service this year, Sky is serving up a seasonal stocking filler to millions of Sky+ app users with the addition of On Demand listings. This Christmas it's going to be even easier to plan what to watch with the flexibility of being able to tee-up whole box sets and shows to start downloading onto a compatible Sky+HD set top box from anywhere in the house via iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini or iPod touch.

From Modern Family to Mad Men, Spongebob Squarepants to Show Me Your Wardrobe, Sky customers can browse through a vast library of around 6,000 hours of the latest and greatest series and shows via the Sky+ app, and with one click set them to download to their Sky+HD set-top box to watch whenever it suits them, at no extra monthly cost. The new feature gives people even more ways to explore and choose what to watch, whether in front of the TV or while they are elsewhere in the house.

The addition of On Demand listings is third major update of the year for the Sky+ app, and gives people another great option for accessing the expanded On Demand offering now available to Sky customers. Earlier in the year Sky added new Catch Up TV to the platform, alongside the existing TV library of thousands of hours of TV shows and movies, offering the most recent shows from Sky channels, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and Demand 5, with access to 4oD coming in the Spring as Sky+ keeps getting better.

So whether it's to get up to speed with an award-winning box set that everyone's talking about, catch up on last night's episode of X Factor, or to sit back and enjoy a blockbuster movie – Sky customers can use these services quickly and easily to watch what they want, when they want.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Director of TV Products, Sky said: "This great new feature capitalises on the iPad or iPhone touchscreen to make it easier than ever to browse and discover something new to watch, regardless of whether you are near your Sky+HD box or elsewhere in your home. So when you've got a house-full this Christmas, rather than interrupt the kids' cartoons or the big match, you can now browse through the On Demand movie listings from the kitchen whilst making dinner, and find the perfect film to watch later on.
