Sleeping Dogs 'Year of the Snake' DLC confirmed for Q1

The DLC train for Sleeping Dogs chugs on with Year of the Snake, a story expansion due sometime in February or March. Publisher Square Enix outlined the DLC, which had a trailer leaked earlier this week, and as suggested it sees Wei Shen hook up with the Hong Kong police to take down the Cult of the Snake. The DLC features new abilities, outfits, and weapons, including tear-gas guns and electroshock pistols.

Square Enix also confirmed two more upcoming DLC packs for its Far Eastern felony-fest, also due in Q1. The Law Enforcer pack features crime-fighting outfits, weaponry, and vehicles, while the Wheels of Fury pack features the "weaponized supercar" DZS-90. Meanwhile, this week saw the releases of the Monkey King and Movie Masters packs. If you can only say one thing for Sleeping Dogs, it's that Square Enix has absolutely kept to its promise of six months of DLC.

Offering an incredible open world adventure, players have delved into the action on Hong Kong Island in their millions, exploring the extensive story-driven campaign and game-extending downloadable content.

"We felt we had a hit on our hands in SLEEPING DOGS and to be the UK's best-selling new IP of 2012 is a fantastic achievement," said Lee Singleton, General Manager, Square Enix London Studios. "Our goal was to set new benchmarks in the open world genre with best-in-class combat, driving and story-telling, and hopefully gamers feel that we've done that with SLEEPING DOGS. We will continue to do that in 2013 with the downloadable content still planned for release."

SLEEPING DOGS launched with a commitment to six months of add-on content and over the coming months the campaign continues with a collection of downloadable packs offering gameplay to suit every taste. During the first three months of 2013, players can look forward to:

Year of the Snake
Wei Shen's story continues in Year of the Snake as he rejoins the ranks of the Hong Kong Police Department in a series of new missions set immediately after the main game. A vicious end-of-the-world cult is taking root in the back streets of Hong Kong... the Cult of the Snake. Hell-bent on cleansing the city of its evils, they cannot be negotiated with as they pursue a path to their righteous salvation. With an arsenal of weapons, including teargas guns and electroshock pistols, new outfits and abilities, Wei must enter a race against the clock to bring the cultists to justice before Judgment Day.

Movie Masters Pack – OUT NOW
With three powerful new outfits, the Movie Masters Pack empowers players to become their own kung fu hero. Don the outfit of the lone Vigilante, become a heroic legend with the Unknown Warrior outfit or coat yourself in armour and take on all manner of attacks while wearing the Bronze Warrior outfit.

Wheels of Fury Pack
Drug smuggling is big business for Hong Kong's triad gangs and Wei Shen's longtime friend Dr Tang has created the wheels to give the Sun On Yee the edge over their rivals. A weaponised supercar, the prototype DZS-90 will give Wei Shen enough armour and firepower to take control of business. Seize the streets back from the 18K with a series of upgrades and add-ons available on completion of each mission, building into the ultimate supercar available both in missions and in the open world.

Law Enforcer Pack
No criminal in Hong Kong is safe from justice. The Law Enforcer Pack gives players their most comprehensive access yet to police department gear, including two cop outfits, a new weapon and five police vehicles.

The Monkey King Pack – OUT NOW
Voted for by the SLEEPING DOGS community and created bespoke by United Front Games, the Monkey King Pack lets players take on the form of the mythical Sun Wukong. Bestowed with the power of the immortals, Wei can wield a powerful two-handed staff against the demons of the Hong Kong underworld. The Monkey King outfit includes its own buff, signature weapon and vehicle.
