The Queue: I'm going to let you finish, but SSC was the worst trash ever

Adam Holisky

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

Today my question is simple: what on earth are people complaining about the ToT trash for?

I get that it's nuts on LFR, but when you get in a guild group for normal/heroic, it's just a matter of understand the mob's simple mechanic/gimmick and working around it. In two weeks I fully expect to have my guild running through the trash like no one's business.

I'm not sure if this is just standard QQ or if people have entirely forgotten about SSC/TK trash...

Daniel asked:

Why doesn't Blizzard allow for an in game client for developers to post their addons on? This seems like a less risky way to deal with keyloggers and other nasty bugs. And by in game I mean menus before you log your characters.

This is a really great idea, but it presents a few problems that are hard to over come, and the time spent resolving these issues would probably be better spent elsewhere.

First there's the issue with the game giving preferential treatment to some addons over others. Blizzard is like the Eye of Sauron in many regards. When they direct their gaze, even onto sites like WoW Insider and MMO-C, we see it immediately. Were Blizzard to start an in-game addon store that was the slightest bit useful, they'd need to give lists of top addons. All that focus, and god forbid any sort of feature focus, could quickly create an economy of addons where only one or two were the only options. Competition would be limited, and the whole system would likely fall apart. Sauron has to be careful where and how he points his eye.

Second, there's a lot of issues with security on the servers when you let users upload their own code to any sort of addon store (by the way, I'm using store in the sense you'd pick addons, not the sense that it'd cost anything, because that'd be just silly). Right now all the things we players store on the servers is tightly controlled. Our character records, chat logs, mail, macros, etc... everything is a tightly defined atomic unit. Allowing such gigantic variables as nearly unlimited-sized addons to be kept as well? That's a big hurdle to get over.

Finally, the largest "problem" (and I use that term lightly here), is that there is a well established addon community and third party network of sites that do the job extremely well. We all know that WoW must be designed with its history in mind, and part of that history is knowing full well that sites like Wowinterface and Curse have been a major factor in the success of WoW's addons. Basically there's no need to change something that's already working.

Draelen asked:

I know you can only get Shado-pan Assault rep off each boss once per week, but do you get more rep for harder difficulties? Should I be holding off on the first half of ToT LFR until after killing Jin'rohk on Normal?

Unless I've entirely paid attention to the wrong numbers (which is possible!) you get the same amount of rep no matter the difficulty.

Osdeath asked:

Has anyone had problems with using Scroll of Resurrection? My wife has convinced me to come back to WoW after an 18 month absence, but she has sent me 2 Scrolls and I haven't received either of them. Any suggestions?

Contact Blizzard via their online customer support. They'll be able to see if the scrolls were emailed, and if not, probably be able to help you out. Be sure to check your spam folder -- a lot of stuff I get from Blizzard goes there immediately (along with all the gold selling crap).

Drakenfyr asked:

Has anyone else noticed that city clocks have been ABSOLUTELY broken since Mists of Pandaria? They no longer ring according to the hour, and seem to ring however many times the hell they feel like.

Huh, no, they seem to be working just fine for me. Maybe this is a time lord messing with us?

Wait, what's that?

Knock. Knock. Knock. Knock.

Damn Master...
