Oculus Rift straps itself into the Strike Suit Zero cockpit

Strike Suit Zero Oculus Rift beta version released

After our time with EVE VR at E3, we can't even imagine playing a space combat game without an Oculus Rift. Thankfully, the developers behind space dogfighter Strike Suit Zero understand this and have released a beta version with a redesigned HUD and UI elements for the Oculus Rift VR headset.

You'll need access to an Oculus Rift dev kit and a copy of Strike Suit Zero to make this work, of course. The developer has also set aside a special area in its forums for feedback on the new beta version.

Strike Suit Zero launched back in January, a game whose chief mechanic is the Strike Suit – an advanced aircraft that can freely transform between space fighter and mech. Strike Suit Zero is currently available for $20 on Steam right now; a standalone score-based version called Strike Suit Infinity launched back in April for $7.

Oculus Rift Beta Version Of Strike Suit Zero Now Live!
Anybody with an Oculus Rift dev-kit can now access the Oculus Rift version of Born Ready Games' space epic, Strike Suit Zero.

Guildford, August 2, 2013 -- After an exclusive BETA comprised of Kickstarter backers, Born Ready Games has today made the Oculus Rift version of Strike Suit Zero available to anybody with an Oculus Rift dev kit and the Steam version of the game.

The Oculus Rift version of Strike Suit Zero puts players in a fully-3D cockpit, with environments that fill the entirety of the players' peripheral vision. With the Rift headset on, all you can see is the vibrant universe that Born Ready Games has created. Responding to subtle movements of the head, playing with the Oculus Rift offers a completely new space combat experience.

"Space was always going to be a perfect fit for Oculus, and we're excited to bring the world of Strike Suit Zero to life with the Oculus Rift." said James Brooksby, Born Ready Games CEO. "Perhaps the biggest task for us was adapting the UI and HUD for this new version of the game – relaying all the relevant information to the player without breaking the immersion."

Born Ready Games addresses this and other aspects of developing for Oculus in its latest developer insight video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vQifi3vUN4

Anybody with an Oculus Rift dev kit can simply boot up the game with the Oculus connected to play the new version of the game. The Oculus version of the game is still very much in a BETA state, and so Born Ready urges anybody playing to submit comments, suggestions and ideas to the Oculus Rift BETA area of their forums.

Strike Suit Zero features intense, large scale space battles, with the transforming Strike Suit offering a twist to the traditional space combat dogfight. With craft designs by renowned mecha designer Junji Okubo (Steel Battalion, Appleseed) and a soundtrack composed by Paul Ruskay (Homeworld), Strike Suit Zero has impressed critics with its aesthetics and other-worldly atmosphere.

Strike Suit Zero is available via Steam now for $19.99, £14.99, €15.99.
