Refresh Roundup: week of August 19th, 2013

Your smartphone and / or tablet is just begging for an update. From time to time, these mobile devices are blessed with maintenance refreshes, bug fixes, custom ROMs and anything in between, and so many of them are floating around that it's easy for a sizable chunk to get lost in the mix. To make sure they don't escape without notice, we've gathered every possible update, hack, and other miscellaneous tomfoolery we could find during the last week and crammed them into one convenient roundup. Official Android updates

  • HTC One X: A rather welcome update is now rolling out to handsets in parts of Europe, which brings Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 to the One X. The BlinkFeed home screen is available in this revision, along with a quick settings panel. [Android Police]

  • HTC One: Jason Mackenzie, president of global sales for HTC, states that the company is seeking certification to deliver Android 4.3 to all US and Canadian variants of the One (and Droid DNA) by the end of September.   • ASUS PadFone 2: Software version 10.4.17.7 is available for the WWE version of this handset that brings security fixes from Google, performance and stability enhancements, along with improved white balance behavior for the camera. [Android Police]

  • Motorola Droid Ultra and Droid MAXX: An OTA update is available from Verizon that brings enhancements to Isis Mobile Wallet and group MMS messages. The new software also will limit nags to join a WiFi network, which will now appear every 12 hours, rather than every 30 minutes. [Droid Life]

Other platforms

  • BlackBerry Q10: BlackBerry OS 10.1.0.4699 is starting to appear for Verizon users, which commenters of CrackBerry suggest is BlackBerry 10.1 Maintenance Release. Separately, an update is rolling out to some T-Mobile users that brings WiFi Calling to the Q10, but the option to enable it is currently greyed out. [CrackBerry 1, 2]

  • HTC 8X: Users in Poland and Australia are receiving a followup update to Windows Phone GDR 2, which is said to resolve issues of slowness that were introduced in the GDR 2 update. [Neowin]

  • Nokia Lumia 822: Following the update for the Lumia 928, Verizon Wireless is distributing the Amber software release from Nokia to its mid-range Windows Phone. [All About Windows Phone]

  • Nokia Lumia 920: Rogers has released the Amber update from Nokia, which brings additional enhancements such as FM radio and Glance that's distributed alongside Windows Phone 8 GDR 2. The update also brings enhanced noise reduction and better color reproduction to the camera. [MobileSyrup]
