Halo: Spartan Assault expansion bringing Xbox 360 controller support this week

Halo: Spartan Assault, 343 Industries' top-down mobile shooter, will receive an expansion on Thursday called "Operation: Hydra." The expansion adds five new missions and more achievements on Xbox Live, and includes support for wired Xbox 360 controllers.

Operation: Hydra has players investigating an intercepted alien signal on the planet Draetheus V's moon. Halo: Spartan Assault is available now for Windows 8 PCs and tablets for $6.99.

Operation Hydra Brings New Gameplay and Features to "Halo: Spartan Assault" on August 29
The expansion to 343 Industries' first mobile "Halo" title adds five new missions, new achievements, and more

Spartans suit back up, because the mobile fight against the Covenant is far from over. Today, 343 Industries in conjunction with Vanguard Games unveiled Operation Hydra, the expansion to "Halo: Spartan Assault" available for digital download on August 29. Available on Windows 8 devices and Windows 8 Phone, "Halo: Spartan Assault" is the top paid app in the Windows 8 store since its launch in July and the fastest grossing Xbox Live title in the Windows Phone Store*. Operation Hydra adds five all-new missions for fans to battle through, including new achievements on Xbox Live.

Rejoin Spartan Sarah Palmer as you intercept a haunting alien signal after the destruction of planet Draetheus V, and follow the signal to the core of the planet's moon where you'll discover its terrifying source. Fight with Palmer and embark on a series of new missions and new environments as you try to unravel a mystery that hits surprisingly close to home.

The expansion also adds support for wired Xbox 360 controllers, enabling you to control Spartan-IV soldiers via the familiar Xbox peripheral on Windows 8 PCs and tablets. In addition, power weapons previously only available via in-app purchase can now be bought using XP.

Launching alongside Operation Hydra, a 512MB version of "Halo: Spartan Assault" is now available for download in the Windows 8 Phone Store for all carriers. A free demo version of "Halo: Spartan assault" featuring one mission and a gameplay tutorial will be available as a free download on August 30.
