Fox News reinvents tablet journalism with 55-inch slates
Today Fox News unveiled a completely revamped newsroom, and it's unlike anything we've ever seen before. Huge 55-inch touchscreen monitors called "BATs" or "big area touchscreens" are scattered throughout the floor, alongside a life-sized Tweetdeck-like Twitter wall. The newsroom may look like a gimmick from the outside, but Fox News claims it will use the new technology to quickly get stories "vetted and confirmed." FiLIP is an electronic leash for your kids' wrists and it's coming to AT&T
Are you an overprotective parent that dreams of keeping tabs on your kid around the clock? Well FiLIP -- a smartwatch and locator device -- may be the perfect tool for you. The FiLIP doesn't come close to the functionality found in Samsung's Galaxy Gear, but instead is intended to be a colorful way to keep an eye on your kids. The wristband can send current location (via GPS, WiFi and cell tower triangulation), compose texts and even set safe zone parameters so you know when your child goes out-of-bounds. The FiLIP should arrive at AT&T in the "coming months," and will be an exclusive addition to the carrier's lineup. Click through for more.
LG confirms production of 'bendable and unbreakable' smartphone displays
We've heard a lot about LG's elastic smartphone displays over the past few years, but today, in an official PR statement, the company announced its plans to mass-produce the panels starting next year. The "unbreakable" displays will come in a 6-inch form, built from plastic substrates that give it bendable properties, allowing it to be fixed inside devices with curved (but likely rigid) designs. Samsung's new 13MP phone camera promises twice the stability, brighter shots
Optical image stabilization for your smartphones usually leaves something to be desired. It's not easy to capture a perfectly clear image (without a tripod or steady surface) given that your hand often shakes slightly. Samsung hopes to alleviate the issue with its newly unveiled extra-stable, 13-megapixel unit which corrects angular errors up to 1.5 degrees off-target sensors. The camera is slated for mass-production starting in early 2014, but we wouldn't put it past the company to include the sensor in a rumored, upcoming Galaxy device. Read on for more.
