Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes coming this fall; PS4 and Xbox One joining the fight

Update: Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes will launch for previous generation systems as well as PS4 and Xbox One this fall. Watch the trailer above.

Original Story: Live in Los Angeles, Disney has announced the next adventure for its popular Infinity franchise. Leveraging its Marvel series, Disney will inject its superheroes into a new release later this year.

Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes will launch this fall.

When originally and accidentally revealed earlier this month, Disney noted the Marvel Super Heroes refresh to Disney Infinity would arrive in August. Disney quickly backtracked on the announcement, saying its D23 club "erroneously reported about the launch of the next chapter of Disney Infinity."

Known comic writer Brian Michael Bendis will create the story for Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes. Bendis promises stories and characters coming in the future, beyond the fall release that "will blow your mind."

The Marvel Super Heroes refresh features six characters: Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Iron Man and Hawkeye. A starter pack will be released featuring three characters, at the event Disney showcased a bundle featuring Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow. Disney's John Vignocchi promised "a dozen more." An extended trailer for the game, a short version of which was teased earlier this month, revealed future characters, including Spider-Man, MODOK, Loki, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Power discs will allow players to call in allies, such as Iron Patriot, and change character costumes.

To compensate for new character abilities, the worlds within Disney Infinity 2.0 have been expanded. Vignocchi explains that the world needed to grow for characters with the ability to fly. Disney Infinity 2.0 increases character levels to 20 and features a new skill tree for character customization. The game's popular Toy Box mode, which Vignocchi says makes up for 60% of time spent with the game, will also expand with the ability to create interiors, feature builders players can drop into the world to automatically add elements to their Toy Boxes and more.

All characters, power discs, and Toy Box saves from Disney Infinity will be compatible with Disney Infinity 2.0. Additionally, the original base will be compatible with Disney Infinity 2.0.
