Mortal Kombat to keep fighting online despite GameSpy closure

The May 31 expiration date for GameSpy's online services is drawing near, but NetherRealm Studios' Mortal Kombat reboot will keep hosting bouts of traumatic blood loss. Ed Boon recently reassured a fan on Twitter that even without GameSpy, players will be able to settle their differences online in the least diplomatic way possible.

Boon's response follows a clarification from Rockstar that online play for Grand Theft Auto 4, GTA5, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 (except for the Mac version) would transition from GameSpy rather than simply shutting down. There are hundreds of games that have yet to be plucked from the imminent wreckage though, including titles from Activision, Capcom, Sega and Electronic Arts.
