TSA to require electronics on international flights to be charged
If you're an American who plans to travel overseas, charge your iPhone and other electronic devices before you hit the Airport. The TSA has made some changes that could allow them to confiscate a device that can't be turned on. A recent press release vaguely detailed the new rules:
Last week, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson directed TSA to implement enhanced security measures at certain overseas airports with direct flights to the United States.
As the traveling public knows, all electronic devices are screened by security officers. During the security examination, officers may also ask that owners power up some devices, including cell phones. Powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft. The traveler may also undergo additional screening.
TSA will continue to adjust security measures to ensure that travelers are guaranteed the highest levels of aviation security conducted as conveniently as possible.
As of right now there is no official list of airports where these rules will be enforced, so as a matter of personal security make sure you fully charge all devices before you reach the airport. You could save yourself the trouble of losing your device at worst, or getting an extra set of pat downs at best.
