Ellen Ripley leads Nostromo crew's return in Alien: Isolation's pre-order DLC

Sega revealed Sigourney Weaver and several members of the original Alien cast reunite in two missions from the upcoming Alien: Isolation. Temper your excitement, because Sega is making both missions pre-order bonuses, with one exclusive in the US to GameStop.

Sega says all pre-orders come with the "Crew Expendable" mission, in which you can play as either Ellen Ripley, Dallas or Parker in the moments following Brett's protracted death in the film. Meanwhile, the GameStop pre-order mission is "Last Survivor," in which players as Ripley try to escape the Nostromo by boarding the Narcissus shuttle.

Pre-orders aside, it's remarkable to see the cast of the 1979 film reunited in The Creative Assembly's upcoming survival horror. Weaver recorded dialog for the missions, as did returning stars Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton and Yaphet Kotto, with a sound-a-like standing in for Ian Holm. Speaking to The Associated Press, Weaver said she found it oddly smooth to resume her role as the film's imperturbable engineer.

"It was eerie how quickly it happened," Weaver told The AP."Honestly. I had to start with this sort of sign-off, 'This is Lieutenant Ripley of the starship Nostromo.' You know, that paragraph. I felt like no time had passed. It was really strange, actually. If anything, it was more affecting to me to read it again 35 years later."

Weaver also said she feels like The Creative Assembly "followed through" with the game's plot. Alien: Isolation's main campaign stars Ripley, but not the one we know from the films. Instead, players take on the role of Ellen's daughter, Amanda, who 15 years after the events of Alien learns of a flight recording recovered from the Nostromo.

"Emotionally, what would Amanda want? She'd want to find her mother," said Weaver. "She's drawn to the same line of work. There are a lot of things that were arresting to me. I have no idea what the game is like. I hope it's creepy and suspenseful and engaging in a way that other games are not - an experience."

So do we, and we'll find out if Alien Isolation lives up to the billing when it hits PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 7. In the meantime, check out our thoughts on its time-based challenge mode, and how squeakily terrifying it was to play it on Oculus Rift.

"Working with the original cast has been an incredible experience," said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead on Alien: Isolation. "It was important to us to have the key original cast members reprise their roles in order to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the movie. For some of the original cast, this is their first appearance in an Alien video game. Seeing them reprise those roles after 35 years was an unforgettable experience."

Anyone who pre-orders the game will get a free upgrade to the Nostromo Edition, which includes the bonus content "Crew Expendable". Players can choose to play as one of three surviving crewmembers, only moments after Brett's death at the jaws of the creature.
