The Queue: Mists is more-or-less standard now, script kiddies, and Puff / The Dark Crystal

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

I love that I get to use the above picture in today's Queue. Read on to the last question to find out why -- really curious to see what everyone's answer is.

FuzzyBunny asked:

Does anyone else think that it is "shortsighted" of Blizzard to include an insta-level 90 in WoD if their goal is to attract new/returning players, and not to include the base game through Mists as part of the package, which are what you would need in order to actually play the Warlords of Draenor expansion pack?

Blizzard is running add that if you resub to WoW you get Mists of Pandaria for free. I think it's safe to say that the base game is now Mists.

Pretty intelligent move by Blizzard. They're going to essentially give no barrier to entry into the game now; which is awesome.

Sergel asked:

I wonder what DDoS perpetrators gain from their attacks to cause so many problems for people.

The people that DDoS WoW and the likes are just doing it to get attention, and to pull off things that other groups cannot. There is a certain rush that people get when they control a bot-net of millions of computers (quite literally). No one can deny that pushing a button and commanding millions of things isn't exciting. The difference is that most of us are not psycopaths and don't want to do things that make people upset.

And these children, in deciding to make a bomb threat to an american airliner, have entered the realm of terrorists, and will now find themselves in solitary confinement soon enough.

Basically their lives are over, which is pretty darn sad. What an absolute waste.

Kablammo asked:

Question for the queue, inspired by discovering that the classic "fighting fantasy" game books are coming to android. It's going to be fun rediscovering the thing which got me into this genre initially, three decades ago.

Anyway, the question. What got you into this "fantasy" genre initially?

For me it was watching The Dark Crystal on HBO in the 80s on our 25" color TV. That really sent me down the track. There were other defined moments, like playing the original Baldur's Gate when I was a teenager, or reading The Hobbit for the first time. I remember in my senior year of high school reading four of the Drizzt Do'urden books in one month. After that it was really just a short jump to WoW and then to writing about it here (well, not so short anymore, that all happened over a decade ago).

Another big part of my trip into the Fantasy genre was Puff the Magic Dragon. My parents were/are hippies, and my mother raised us on the great music out of the 60s and 70s. Peter, Paul, and Mary created such a vibrant picture that when we'd put on the cassette and play it at night, I would end up dreaming about dragons.

I think a big part of Fantasy and SciFi for me was allowing me to escape a pretty annoying childhood. I grew up in an area where sports were the norm, and I was into music, reading, and high school debate. Not exactly the 'cool' stuff to enjoy during school -- but there were plenty of people like me I found that loved these genres, and they were a lot more accepting and interesting than other people.

I also like how most of my nerd friends in school are now pretty darn successful in life. It really does work out like that way too often. I hope all the kids reading this today can keep this in mind... trust me, all those books you're reading now are going to pay off in spades later in life.

P/S: I got to meet Peter Yarrow one time. I'll tell the story at BlizzCon if you run into me around the con. My mother my never forgive me.
