Dragon Quest now squashing Slimes on iOS, Android

Furthering its efforts to ensure you're never stuck commuting without a lengthy, time-killing RPG, Square Enix has launched its mobile version of Dragon Quest on Google Play and iTunes. Regardless of which shop you bring your bag of gold to, you'll need $2.99 to set out and stop the peace-destroying Dragonlord once more.

Dragon Quest's arrival falls right into Square Enix's Slime-plagued porting schedule, which involves ports of DQ2 and DQ3 in the coming months. Dragon Quest mobile producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto has expressed concern over the feasibility of a pocket-sized adaptation of DQ7 however, largely due to its heaps of text.

TAKE A MOBILE JOURNEY THROUGH THE LAND OF ALEFGARD IN DRAGON QUEST
Square Enix's Retro Turn-Based Console RPG Launches on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android devices

LOS ANGELES (Sep. 11, 2014) – After its launch in 1986, DRAGON QUEST™ saw international success for being one of the first console role-playing games (RPG). Three years later, the title launched in North America for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) under the name DRAGON WARRIOR®. Since then, DRAGON WARRIOR I & II was released for the Game Boy Color in 2000. Now, for the first time in 14 years, SQUARE ENIX® has released DRAGON QUEST – a classic retro title that pioneered the development of the RPG genre – on iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch® and Android™ devices.

An introductory title to the acclaimed series, DRAGON QUEST players begin their voyage as the "Hero," a descendent of the valiant hero Erdrick. Featuring an epic journey through the historic realm of Alefgard, players must tackle fearsome foes and adventure through perplex dungeons on their way to the trepid Dragonlord's lair. After defeating an abundance of enemies, players can explore greater distances and complete additional quests.

"DRAGON QUEST is an extremely pivotal title within the industry; not only was it one of the first highly successful turn-based RPG's, but it also spawned the successful franchise and set the standard for all other role-playing video games," said Noriyoshi Fujimoto, the producer of the mobile DRAGON QUEST series. "We are thrilled to bring the legend of DRAGON QUEST to mobile devices and cannot wait for new and old fans to rediscover the RPG that won the hearts of two generations."

DRAGON QUEST's sets forth a visually aesthetic and colorful terrain, allowing mobile players to explore a fantasy world filled with swords, magic and monsters – all in one standalone package (with no in-app purchases). The game's simple and intuitive controls mimic the classic retro game play of the never-before-released (in US) Super Nintendo version, and are optimized to work perfectly with the vertical layout of any modern mobile device. Moreover, the position of the movement button can be changed to facilitate both left and right-handed game play. In addition, DRAGON QUEST features a legendary trio of creators: master creator Yuji Horii, revolutionary music composer Koichi Sugiyama and art master Akira Toriyama.

DRAGON QUEST is now available for $2.99 on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android devices. To download the game, visit:
