Don't Starve Together has 2 million beta keys, here's the plan...

Klei's Don't Starve is prepping for its multiplayer expansion with a multi-phase beta rollout. The company's 2 million beta keys for Don't Starve Together, which the studio showed off with some prototype footage a couple of months back, will begin unlocking co-op suffering for the studio's friends and family this week.

Next up are the folks who registered for the beta. Klei will invite more players in once the studio is able to prove it can support the population with a strict diet of berries and roasted seeds.

"We do not have a defined timeline for how often groups will be invited or how large those groups will be. This will be determined entirely by our ability to support the amount of people coming in and what needs to be done in order for everybody to have the smoothest experience possible," noted Klei on its forums.

Finally, the last batch of invites will give preference to folks who receive friend keys and their friend uses that key, which will "increase [their] chances of receiving more keys." Klei recognizes it's a "little bit behind" its end of summer goal for the expansion.

General reminder that the $15 game will add the multiplayer components free for current owners, but the game will increase to $20 after Don't Starve Together officially launches.
