Resident Evil Revelations 2 ESRB rating almost a Barry sandwich
ESRB's newly-published rating for Resident Evil Revelations 2 hints at a third playable character, and that hint seems to point toward a return for Barry Burton. As DualShockers spotted, the rating notes "players assume the roles of an imprisoned woman and a father searching for his daughter on an island."
Moira Burton and Claire Redfield are already confirmed as playable characters, so it's hardly a giant leap to Moira's father Barry, who debuted memorably as a STARS operative in the first Resident Evil. When approached by Eurogamer about the details of the ESRB rating, a Capcom spokesperson said the company won't comment on rumor or speculation.
As Joystiq's Anthony Agnello saw at Comic-Con, Claire and Moira play somewhat differently, with the former action-orientated and the latter acting in more a support role:
"While Redfield wields a traditional pistol and shotgun, Moira says she won't use guns because of past experiences. She does rock a mean flashlight, though. Tapping triangle on the PS4 controller lets you switch between the two, so in new rooms Moira can shine a light around the environment to illuminate hidden items and keys for locked doors. It's far more functional than the scanning device from Revelations while serving the same purpose, plus it enhances the feeling of partnership between the two characters."
If there is a third playable character, Barry Burton or otherwise, it'd be interesting to see how he or she fits within the interplay of protagonists. Capcom's confirmed co-op features in Revelations 2, and Producer Michiteru Okabe told GameSpot it was designed with Clare and Moira's differing playing styles in mind.
"Some people are afraid to play by themselves because they may not be as good with the horror stuff; they'd prefer someone else be with them," Okabe said. "Some people want to play a little more aggressively and lead the dance, so to speak, so we thought the best way to do co-op would be to have it a little asymmetrical to have it appeal to two different kinds of players at once."
Resident Evil Revelations 2 is headed West in early 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The twist is it'll debut in four weekly downloadable episodes, before hitting both online and retail stores in a complete package.
