CAPTAIN ARCHIE MONTGOMERY TOAD

If you can't read telegram, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker debuted 16th in the UK charts this week. Here's what's a bit confusing, though: The game's official European release date was January 2, 2015 but it was sent through UK letterboxes and spotted on British retail shelves as early as December 19, 2014. We at Joystiq saw copies of the Wii U puzzler in several UK stores during the holidays. So, is that 16th place really representative of the game's launch sales?

For its part, data compiler Chart Track doesn't mention Treasure Tracker's early release in its round-up. Also, the game hasn't been in the top 40 until this week's charts.

In any case, the mystery around Captain Toad's placement is more exciting than anything else in this week's charts. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is on top for the third time running, and the top three remain frozen-in-time with Grand Theft Auto 5 in second and FIFA 15 in third. Otherwise, UK retail is knee deep in the post-holiday lull, which at least gives Brits a chance to catch up on their post-holiday backlogs.
