Craig Charles won't be presenting the 'Robot Wars' reboot

Smeg!

We hate to be the ones to break it to you, but Craig Charles will not be reprising his role as presenter for the upcoming Robot Wars reboot -- and there'll be no Philippa Forrester trawling the pits for interviews and intel either. As well as revealing an updated logo for the show this morning, the BBC announced that Irish duo Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon will host the six-part series, with veteran commentator Jonathan Pearce returning to call the action as it happens. Set to air on BBC Two at some point in the future, the new tournament format will feature "more robots, more battles and more science," with dreams shattered or realised in a new, "literally bullet proof" arena.

We're sure the new presenters will be up to the challenge -- funnyman Dara Ó Briain in particular, given his genuine interest in technology, science and engineering. Still, it's a bit of a blow for all who look back on the heyday of Robot Wars with fondness. Despite joining the show in its second season to replace departing presenter Jeremy Clarkson, Craig Charles' brand of lazy enthusiasm and grit complemented the metal-twisting carnage perfectly, quickly making him synonymous with the show. It's like The Crystal Maze all over again.
