Con Amazon y Barnes & Noble apretando las tuercas (ambos han lanzado al mercado lectores de e-books por debajo de los 150 dólares), era de esperar que Sony recogiera el guante y renovara su gama Reader. La actualización de los lectores del fabricante japonés ha sido completa: tanto la familia Pocket, Touch como Daily, cuentan con mejoradas pantallas, aumentando la velocidad de paso de página e incorporando un cuerpo de aluminio al E Ink Pearl.

El Daily Edition cuenta además con conectividad por WiFi, mientras que el resto sigue aislado del mundo sin ninguna opción de conectarse de forma inalámbrica al exterior.
