Engadget Review

The Fire TV should be impressive -- it's faster and better equipped than most of the other media streamers out there, and does it all at a decent price. Right now though, features like gaming, voice search and ASAP are barely helping it keep pace with the competition. Maybe with a few more apps (HBO Go, Vudu), some great games and an extra layer of polish it could push ahead.

The Amazon Fire TV is my favorite streaming device so far! I find it to be much better with than the Roku. The new 4k HD is fantastic to use, that is if you have the internet to handle it lol. At first I was a bit skeptical about the price however, I actually read a personal review about The Amazon Fire TV and it seemed like the person had a great time using it. The article was very helpful to me -- if you want to check it out yourself you can read it here http://www.quikrev.com/amazon-fire-tv/

I use the Fire TV almost every night as long light noise to fall asleep to. The interface is simple and easy to navigate, and there is a ton of content from Amazon. The voice search on the remote is fast and accurate. I bought this on sale for $85 from Best Buy, and I'm glad. While I'm happy with it, it's mot quite worth $100, especially because you're basically paying for Amazon to sell you more stuff. The drawbacks are:- The simple interface can make it difficult to discover new things to watch, because it is very linear, and browsing categories isn't great.- While there is a ton of stuff to watch from Amazon, there isn't an easy way to see what you can watch for free with Amazon Prime. You kind of have to stumble around.- Most of the apps leave something to be desired. Roku definitely wins here.

Simply put. I love this device. The responsiveness is unparalleled by my Roku 3 or my friend's Apple TV. I just don't understand why people don't rave about it more. At launch, content was lacking but since then this has been more than fixed by adding tons of HBO content and Amazon original content to Prime. I've heard they are integrating Netflicks into voice search at which point this will be perfect!

While I currently own the Amazon Fire Tv, looking back I should have waited. The reason I say this is because not only does it seem not quite finished, but slightly misleading in some areas. Don't get me wrong the specs of this box are very impressive, but...Menu/UI - The home screen leaves a lot to be desired. It is very cluttered and focused on Amazon. Not that it's ugly, but they try to stuff too much in there. I am a Amazon Prime member and I am very disappointed that there is not an easier way to find and search for Prime content. I'm sure this is with the hope that you will just pay for more content. I own a Roku 3 and its Amazon UI is much cleaner.USB Port - The USB port serves no purpose except to plug in a keyboard and mouse. It will NOT work with a USB port, external hard drive or thumb drive. Yes they do have a PLEX app but I would rather plug it in directly. Not being able to use an extra hard drive also is an issue because the Fire Tv only has 5.5 Gigs of internal space available (2.5 being used for the OS) to install games. Trust me, this is not nearly enough space to install larger games like GTA without having to uninstall apps. This needs to be addressed in a future update. Even the Ouya has this feature.Voice Search - Do I really need to say it? This feature only works for Amazon. They keep saying more app support is coming but I will hate this feature until it works with Netflix!App Selection - Amazon seems more concerned about Game apps then streaming apps. I bought this device to stream videos. No HBO Go, Vudu, Target Ticket, Redbox, and many more apps that should be there. There is a list of about 50+ apps for streaming. Roku kills Amazon in this department. Also, about every other day the Amazon part of the box STOPS working. Every video I click on pulls an error message. I called Amazon about this issue and they told me to restart the box. Really? It's getting pretty frustrating having to do this all the time. And its only the Amazon videos... Netflix, Youtube and all the other apps work fine.Hopefully these issues will be addressed in the next update. Come on Amazon Step it up!!!
