Engadget Review

The XS Max's Smart Battery Case might be a little bigger, but it actually packs the exact same batteries as its little brother. In average daily use, that means the case won't quite double the XS Max's battery life, but that's arguably not a huge problem since the Max's battery is already significantly better than the XS's. Because of that, though, this Smart Battery Case just might be overkill for most people. And while there's no question that the Smart Battery Case does a great job keeping the XS Max running even longer, the added size and weight will make an already big phone even harder for some people to use. All told, this is a great battery case for those who really need it, but it just doesn't seem as necessary as the XS version.

Have been testing in real time use for a week now. For me, being a business traveler, gps’ing from client to client in a rental car, and doing most of the the days computing work on the very large screened xs max, this case is just the bomb for me. Yes, it’s sometimes challenging to remove and place in your pocket, but the upside far outweighs the inconvenience. I no longer stress about plugging in every time I get in the car off to the next client. I don’t even think about it anymore. often in the late afternoon, the case has fully discharged, and the Iphone battery is still in the 90% range. No need to top off before going out for dinner. I like the grippy sides and the extra heft and size does not bother me at all. And the bonus: wireless charging. I migrated to this type of charging last year, at the end of the days work and I did not have to change a thing. Drop on the same charger I always travel with, case and all. The case will fully charge from 0% and the phone itself will be at 100% during the time I go to bed and when I wake up. So this case may not be perfect, but for my needs, I find it to be a major stress reliever.
