Engadget Review

With cheap build quality and a mediocre display, the T100 is far from perfect. But thanks to some solid performance and generous pricing, it still offers incredible bang for your buck.

Knocking on the bottom of the dock delivered a hollow, cheap sound sound that didn't necessarily scream "quality"... While the screen resolution and build quality do little to impress, the T100 is a fairly low barrier to entry for the Windows 8.1 curious.

The Transformer Book T100 won’t win any beauty contests with its glossy gray plastic back and sides, but you won’t be embarrassed to take the tablet to school or to the coffee shop.

It's too early to say, but the Transformer Book T100 could be a winner. That low price tag is going to please a lot of people, and Asus made a lot of solid design choices on the tablet side of things.

Overall, we were impressed by this newest Transformer, as it delivers some solid hardware at a very reasonable price.

At first glance, the ASUS Transformer Book T100 is obviously part of the popular ASUS Transformer family of tablets (I really liked the ASUS Infinity). Over the years, the design has evolved a bit and has more minimalist lines now, but overall the profile is pretty recognizable.

After turning away from Windows RT, Asus has a low-cost device that could put the kibosh on Microsoft’s Surface 2. The Transformer Book T100 is both laptop and tablet running Windows 8.1 for up to 11 hours, priced at $349.

...this is the netbook for the new decade, and here's why - this whole package is going to start at an absolutely unbelievable $349 ... for a full notebook and tablet and Windows 8 and Office 2013 ... At this price, it's going to be hard for the average Android tablet or Chromebook to compete.

You get an IPS panel, great battery life and modern WiFi all in a package that can work as both a notebook and a tablet. The system is responsive and predictable in its performance thanks to the use of solid state storage.

What I will say is that it’s a heck of a machine for $349 and up. It’s faster than you’d expect a hybrid tablet in this price range to be, it’s capable of running virtually any Windows app ... On the other hand, the keyboard and touchpad leave a bit to be desired...

We've had a few minutes of play with the T100 and it's that price which keeps echoing in our heads. A capable little bargain - we just wish the trackpad was a bit larger and nicer to use.
