Engadget Review

The Peak's ability to automatically track exercise and sleep makes it one of the most sophisticated fitness trackers available. Still, you'll get more value for your money once Basis adds smartphone notifications, which will turn this fitness band into more of a smartwatch.

I have been looking for something that could give me the accuracy of the GoWearFit in a watch. I got all that and more with the Basis Peak. I feel that Basis has the right focus of making the first priority to provide accurate, meaningful data to the user. With sensors that are leaps ahead of other trackers, Basis really understands the "tracker" part of the fitness tracker.I love that the interface is simple to use and gives me the information I need quickly. I don't have to worry about getting distracted by my watch. I don't feel like I am a slave to the technology. I can put it on, check my calories burned, hear rate & steps taken and be done. After one day of use I found the touch screen gestures second nature. While I would still buy the Peak without SMS, email & call notifications, they are nice to have and I notice that because of them I don't feel the need to pick up my phone every 5 min.The band is satisfyingly thick and does a good job of keeping the sensors on the back of the watch snug to my skin without making things uncomfortable. The design makes the watch look like a watch and not a phone strapped to my wrist, but to be fair, I do have a very large wrist. Because of my large wrist I fully expected to have to buy a replacement strap but the strap actually longer than most fitness trackers and the stock band works awesome. The mobile app can be slow at times and syncing the info up to Basis servers can be slow at times but the wealth of information provided is hands down the best of any fitness tracker. I also love the ability of being able to download my data to CSV. At first the concept of being forced to set goals in the app based on habits seemed confining but now that I have been using it, I can honestly say that it is pure genius! Giving into the Peak's focus on consistency really is helping me to form life-changing habits.Sleep tracking is simply put the BEST. I have sleep apnea. I wore the watch one night without my cpap and then with it and the quality of sleep helped me realise how important my mask is for me.The ONLY thing that I wish I had with the Peak is an open API so that apps like MyFitnessPal and RunKeeper could integrate but Basis promises to open up an API to 3rd parties later this year.Bottom line is this is simply the best fitness tracker on the market. It provides a powerhouse of info to users and the companion software does an amazing job at helping you make lasting changes.
